As I slowly start to get my music act together on the pc (squeezebox on the way, ripping a daily chore) I discovered this - http://musicip.com/ . If you've already got it then feel free to skip to the next thread...
Basically it analyses all the music on your pc (music, not the tags) and you can then generate playlists based on what the music actually sounds like. So I just put in as the basic track Ocean Rain and I'm now on Patti Smith, Birdland to be followed by Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating In Space from Spiritualised. Then a bit of Xymox, The Lotus Eaters etc. Drags up all kinds of stuff I forgot existed.
I'm sure there's other similar things about but this is the first one I've seen
Mostly it works well, recommended. And, in its basic version, free.
Takes days to analyse all your tunes first time round though!

The newer versions of Winamp have something similar: check out one of the plug-ins Predixis Music Magic. The only downside is it takes ages to go through your music.

I gave up on it after it still hadn't finished cataloging my music after a week of processing
Hmm I like the sound of that, must check it out when I get home.
Enjoy your squeezebox (hope it's version 2). I've got two of them, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. Over 100 gigs of music at the touch of a few buttons (or via a web page). CDs well and truly retired to the loft along with the vinyl. Bliss
Hope you are using a decent ripper too. I can recommend EAC
