It's been around for a while, but still worth a look at

It's well worth a trawl through the rest of Philippe's collection too.
Cheers

fairly sure Sinny mentioned seeing him in the flesh without shades.

Just remember this. This rabble you keep talking about does most of the working, paying and dying in this community.

That's a nice pic of Carl McCoy without shades, now how about AE?
Yeah, I ambushed Von on the Saturday night of the recent Leeds gigs while he was hovering at the side of the crowd sans shades.
Afraid I got a little and failed to really get a conversation going!

no, but people used to tell me I looked like Jason Donovan.
I wasn't complaining, because he was quite a dreamboat at the time.

I was there too! He was wandering around in his big coat (indoors - if it's not one silly accnessory its another). I think he thought he was in disguise. Mind you, no-one was bothering so maybe he was. I think most of the generic goths (ie non-sisters specific fans) expect him to look a certain way and aren't looking for a short guy in an orange coat with no sunglasses.Erudite wrote:Yeah, I ambushed Von on the Saturday night of the recent Leeds gigs while he was hovering at the side of the crowd sans shades.

"You do realize you're talking to a man with a human head in his hands who has every intention of using it to beat these people to death?"
Lots of times..he can often be seen roaming around without them at gigs. Sometimes he has wandered onstage before the support band for a look.
But the best was at the tenth birthday doodah when he whipped them off with the words 'now here's a funny thing' & did the rest of the show without them. Nice. Very nice.
I understand he did a similar thing the next or previous night (sorry can't remember- you were allowed 2 tickets for one night or one ticket for each night, I had 2 for one night) but stuck them back on again after one song.

Yeh, I was there, I saw him standing there grinning as we were entering the venue. I didn't notice him until someone nudged me and said "look who it is..."Jim wrote: I was there too! He was wandering around in his big coat...
Yeh, the next night, just before Jolene he said "Who wasn't here yesterday...(takes off shades)...nearly human."mayhem wrote: But the best was at the tenth birthday doodah when he whipped them off with the words 'now here's a funny thing' & did the rest of the show without them. Nice. Very nice.

Quick story: 16 Feb 1991. Leeds University (Fan Club Gig).
At the very end of the gig Eldritch bent over the front of the stage and very theatrically removed his ray bans. It was breath-taking (lol). He then bowed and put them back on and left the stage.

While I'm digging up old threads...
Saw Von (shadeless) at the Blank Canvas Saturday gig. Clocked him immediately, thought "I'll play it cool and not hassle him". Mrs markfiend came over and I said "look who it is". Von was kind of hiding in a corner, and he saw us gawping, smirked and lit another cigarette. He hung around next to us for about 1/2 hour during the support act (was it Oceansize?) and when he wandered off, he touched my shoulder!!!
I got the impression he doesn't really like being bothered, especially when on the Sunday night he disappeared backstage after being asked for two or three autographs.
He's a wee lad isn't he? I reckon he can't be more than about 5'4".

hmmmm
actually, a few of us saw von as we enteed the dark arches for the saturday gig. he was stood at the back, near the doosr and the merch stalls, sipping a can of beer. he had on a paramedics jacket over a hooded top, with the hood up. and no shades.
as the saying goes: "if you could see what i've seen with you eyes"
and as the other saying goes: "he's right withnail. look at him. his mechanisms gone. he's had more drugs than you've had hot dinners"

An Eldritch sans shades should never be gazed upon.
