There seems to be a new user who looks rather suspicious, what with a name like review-slots-bonus-16288...

Kill'em!

(maybe we could make this one sticky so we can add all new ones we spot?)

I had passed a note to higher powers to purge the ones listed above already. Whenever I log on, the first things which I do are check to see if anything in the weeding forum needs updating and see if any spammers have registered recently. The latter is taking more and more time lately. :urff:

Thanks for your vigilence.

To help you people out, and because I absolutely HATE to see our beloved forum clogged with these assholes, I did some research in the Members database.

The criteria I used: a name with no posts and referring to a website with drugs, sex and other suspicious content I see as a spammer.

Also, someone caled 'dkjfgzibdn' and heading from the Cayman Islands, with no posts, seems highly suspicious in MY book.

I'll give you the list and I'll mention where their web address refer to...

You see what you do with it.

I did NOT include sites referring to stuff such as MySpace, they are too difficult to trace and might result in deleting genuine HL members...

Some of them were pointed out by Korin already.

And for the record, I went back as far as the beginning of 2006...

Here goes:

Janeloan_B -- sex site
slots-bot-29, slots-bot-2886, slots-bot-288 -- duh!
C_robinson -- medication
David-scott -- medication
Paul-white -- medication
zrtqks -- mp3-players
tykktykk -- gay porn
anjuta1973 -- medication
phone-cards -- ermmmm...
neckermann -- medication
wixntthe -- medication
JohnDoe1959 and JohnDoe1957 -- job search sites
Wfqsony -- multimedia
Hpvohc -- multimedia
Jdpbuln -- nonsense server, eventually leading to crashing your browser
CoolSavino -- banking
McNafferson -- medication
Fatloss -- medication
Jtfoe1974 -- nonsense server, crash etc...

Hope to have been of any help ;)

When you join a yahoogroup, for instance you get this message -

Word Verification

Enter the word as it is shown in the box below. This step helps Yahoo! prevent automated registrations.

Would adding this to the registration function help at all? :?

In the meantime, I did the rest of the memberslist as well, which was a lot easier ;)

I found only two others in the period 2002-2005:

linethai -- bogus link in foreign lingo ;)
Exael -- ringtones and wallpapers

...and this concludes my actions.

From PhPbbHacks, I found THIS...

It seems to be what Simon said (), especially made for PhP forums.

Maybe people who are more adept in the use of PhP can look at it, I ain't got a clue...

I believe that QB has already added the random-numbers-and-letters-in-a-gif thingy, but the bots are still managing to register.

One of the penalties of success it seems. :|

Some sites have to go through Moderator Evaluation before you can post this one for instance - http://www.nirvana2.com There must be some way of stopping them. I've stopped all the spammers getting on my yahoosites :|
