Sunglasses galore

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Ok as sad as this sounds I've got a question.

What we're the name/brand/type of sunglasses that Mr E wore in the Dominion Vid?

I know hes best known for being rarely seen without a pair, and most people seem to associate him with the aviator look of the 80's, but the enclosed ones look pretty cool and if I could track some down Id like a pair.

Sad but true.

They are pretty nifty aren't they? No idea what they are though sorry!

While we're on it, anyone any idea what brand etc. the "Vision Thing" era shades are?

I liked the little heart shaped ones he wore for a while. But I bet they were just cheapo ones picked up somewhere, and on me they would just look silly, rather than silly but cool. :von:

Von is known to like his Ray Bans....... especially in the Vision Thing era.... the heart shaped ones are a limited edition he picked up in Amsterdam while he was living there..

The normal von raybans are aviators (favoured by US airforce pilots and Tom Cruise wanabees circa TopGun) which are cool in their own way.

The sunglasses in dominion however have round lenses and metal enclosing around the side, best shown at the start side on, or in the cafe bit.

Anyway the search continues......

I really must have too much time on my hands ;)

I would say, as a wearer of aviator shades since the very early 70's, that most of Mr. E's shades were purchased at petrol/gas stations.
The Dom. vid. ones are something else.

Top Shop used to sell these in about 1994 so they can't be that limited edition.

On the Sputnik website, Tony James writes about his girlfriend Penelope Kyme:

"Eldritch hated her cos she laughed at his Marks and Spencer (very washed out) underpants and was immediately banned from the dressing room."

Ha ha ha!

That's black leather enclosing actually. It's ski glasses, usually worn by alpine downhill skiers. You can find them in any well-stocked alpine skiing shop. Hope it helps.

p.s Of course also used by mountaineers and polar scientists et cetera. The leather is there to screen off the sun reflecting in the snow. So if you can find a well-stocked mountaineering shop, that'll do too. I know I did.

I've got something similar (made by Cébé), but they're not much use as they don't block enough light and the leather side shields cut out my peripheral vision. And they look a bit too twatty for my liking :( And as I appear to have lost my darkest glasses just as the summer should be starting, I'm now urgently on the hunt for a replacement...

There was another thread where someone tracked down some Julbo glacier sunglasses like that.

I remember because the linky someone posted was where I got mine from... :innocent:
