So I picked up a german copy of said disc over the weekend, catalog number 2292-40616-2 on East/West Merciful. I just want to find out if this was the remastered version, or did that come out in 92?

Some other site I was looking at listed it as having "japanese album mixes," but I don't know what that is supposed to mean.

I was hoping someone here might have a clue..

Digitally Remastered in 1992
Cat No : 9031-77379-2 VS

Looks like you have a 1988 version. I don't have one so I can't compare.

The 1988 and 1992 CD versions have different mixes to one another and both have different mixes to the original Vinyl which is still the best version of the album by far.

Mine are both French pressings (dunno why) but you should be looking for something like this

My 1992 remaster has the same French thing. I'm going by the blurb at the bottom where it says "Made In Germany by WARNER MUSIC MANUFACTURING EUROPE"

The stuff around the outside of the CD is in German, French and English.
I guess it is a European type pressing then rather than country specific.

Well, I guess that answers that! It's not the remastered version. The plus side though, is that I get to replace my s**t Elektra copy for it's European counterpart.

On the same note, it seems most people think the remaster to be worse sounding than the original LP pressing? I wonder what mix the original Elektra CD that I have is?

Geeky, but interesting.

I have the USA Elektra release and also wondered about its 'pedigree'.

It seems that it's mostly made up of the 'Japanese' mixes except for Logic and Stranger, which are the original mixes...

How odd.

http://website.lineone.net/~garynaylor/discoffa.htm Says:
Date: March 1985
Comments: The first few pressings were available in gatefold sleeves. The CD version was remastered and released in 1992 and has been remixed. There is also a Japanese release available with different mixes and different lyrics to Amphetamine Logic (In Fact I Mean Logic!!!!). The American CD release is almost identical to the UK CD release, except for a slightly different layout to the track list on the CD itself, the inclusion of track times on the back of the case, and it appears to have been released on CD in 1985 not 1992.
Does anyone have the Japanese Mix of Logic? Is there any way that I can purchase the original CD version of F&L&A from a shop that isn't the re-release version?

I was looking around on Amazon for the 1988 CD version of F&L&A, and found this. It says "1985" do you reckon it's the original CD or the 1992 one?

For those that have the 1990 pressing of F&L&A. Is it any different from the 1988 pressing and is this it? http://www.101cd.com/imports/nwinfo.asp?id=02262246

Probably not, seeing as the blurb on that page says
Fans might wish to note the album's 1992 remastering cleans up the sound quality significantly

The easiest way to spot the difference is by taking a look at the examples here.

Track times for the 1988 version look like this:
1. The Sisters of Mercy - Black Planet (4:41)
2. The Sisters of Mercy - Walk Away (3:26)
3. The Sisters of Mercy - No Time to Cry (3:59)
4. The Sisters of Mercy - A Rock and a Hard Place (3:35)
5. The Sisters of Mercy - Marian [Version] (5:44)
6. The Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always (4:14)
7. The Sisters of Mercy - Possession (4:38)
8. The Sisters of Mercy - Nine While Nine (4:11)
9. The Sisters of Mercy - Logic (4:49)
10. The Sisters of Mercy - Some Kind of Stranger (7:16)
1992 version looks like this:
1. The Sisters of Mercy - Black Planet (4:41)
2. The Sisters of Mercy - Walk Away (3:24)
3. The Sisters of Mercy - No Time to Cry (3:59)
4. The Sisters of Mercy - A Rock and a Hard Place (3:35)
5. The Sisters of Mercy - Marian [Version] (5:43)
6. The Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always (4:15)
7. The Sisters of Mercy - Possession (4:42)
8. The Sisters of Mercy - Nine While Nine (4:10)
9. The Sisters of Mercy - Logic (4:51)
10. The Sisters of Mercy - Some Kind of Stranger (7:20)
Neither of these mixes are the same as the original vinyl release, which IMHO still sounds the best.

I seriously doubt you'll find a normal retail shop selling mint stock that hasn't been available for 13 years when the standard issue is still common and much easier for them to get their hands on.

Your best bet is a specialist second-hand shop.

and it arrived today;brand new and still in the cellophane. it's not the remastered version, and though i've yet to decide in what way it is different from the original vinyl it certainly sounds better than the remaster.the latest (only) date on it is 1985.as in "copyright 1985".
