The Stand

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Hm. I am totally unfamiliar with that, so it looks like a trip to the bookshop on Saturday.

I've split this stuff about The Stand out of this thread cos it's not really Sisters Chat any more is it?

that Steven King himself is in. Just a bit-part, but he does get a couple of lines IIRC.

The book was "revised and expanded" a few years back; King put in some extra material his original publisher/editor had made him take out. Like it wasn't long enough?

Yeah, it's probably Stevo's best book. And I enjoyed the miniseries too. (And I taped it to VHS. I wonder if I still have it?)

I saw the miniseries when I was about eleven or twelve. It may explain a great deal about me now...

Good show though. Never read his books; the inside of my skull is scary enough without additions!

The Stand? Is that the one about the cold?

Bah, gave up after trawling through about the first three chapters...and if I remember rightly they were STILL probably just walking down a road

I love and loathe Mr King with equal measure. His thin books are the best.

one of the few king books i've not even started - i find his writing inconsistent to it's content eg "christine"; "the shining";both fine books and films."pet semetary";"carrie"; good stories ,not that well written.

i've watched the mini-series on video -stared off great.turned to s**t.

Did QB know you had librarian tendencies when he made you a moderator? Or are you just trying to impress the Chairman?

Well, this thread starting in "Currently watching" here in General Chat, to "Last Magician Of Rational Though" in Sisters Chat and back here to "The Stand" in General Chat.

This'll probably end up in Trading, Where Are They Now, and then in Announcements over in Tierkreis' forum.

Like Rian, I used to read a lot of Stephen King about ten years ago, but nothing since. But I do remember liking The Stand, along with The Shining. Definitely one of the better ones and even if it's long, he's not exactly a taxing writer to read. It and The Tommyknockers were good too, but as with any super-prolific author, his stuff is a bit patchy.
