On the Beach

If Andrew's on the beach, I wouldn't worry about him. He's got his spade and (luckily) a very big bucket. Probably building a nice new castle, away from the salt-water, above the tidemark. You're still wondering sadly what happened to the first one. Go figure. I'm man enough to call a spade a weapo...

Re: Giving Ground - Official Lyrics?

I always liked the words on the album version; when I heard the original single version I thought "hmmm, not Von's best work, kind of too gothy if you know what I mean, I can see why he edited them on the album". It becomes even more clear now.

Re: Giving Ground - Official Lyrics?

According to _Paint My Name..._, Boyd Steemson wrote the words to Giving Ground because it was a rush job to get the single out and Eldritch was off trying to get Werner Herzog to produce the next album?

Professional indexer here. You get what you pay for. Authors can't index their own work for the same reason they can't proofread it, they're too close to it.

Re: Eldritch-isms

I assumed that DM was who they were referring to in the late 90s: It's been a long time since we changed one of the Doktor's standard voices. We've created and collected a lot of "special effects" drum sounds, but we don't use them live because the sound would vary too wildly from song to song. It's...

Re: Eldritch-isms

Eldritch has reaffirmed his love for Spinal Tap repeatedly, his US touring company is called Hello Cleveland Inc. The implication from Crystal Palace is that he thought it was beneath the Sisters to be opening for the "puppets" in Depeche Mode (which may have also referred to that band's live sets b...

Any chance of making those available again, somehow? Someone on Facebook wanted to read :von: 's interview with Laughing Lenny

Reminds me of the way that Frank Zappa would turn offhand quips from his band into songs, eg. "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?"

I'll just leave this here:

RIP Mr Steinman
I assume the lyrics on this version are Steinman's originals, which :von: described as "...illegal"?

Re: All about that bass

Miami, which I believe was the last gig with the PE before the promoters dropped nuts and cancelled the tour, has an excellent sound and Suzanna's keyboards and BVs are very clear (esp on Ribbons). Andreas and Tim are cutting some tasty guitar noises and Tj is really adding something - although I wo...

Patricia Morrison did her job and did it well. Her job was not playing bass, it was baby-sitting Von on promo tours to make sure he didn't end up on the old you-know-what again.

When they used to go on at Robert Fripp to get back together the original lineup of King Crimson (when Greg Lake was still alive), his response was: I would if I thought they could still play the material as well as the new band, but I don't. This would be my response to any idea of Hussbag rejoinin...

Kind of funny about how one of those reviews was disappointed that the big anthems weren't extended a bit longer. I'm reminded of Von saying (maybe on the website?) that the good Doktor isn't good at adding another verse or chorus on the fly or settling into an extended jam. (Although maybe given mo...

The instrumental was definitely played, as was Flood II. Von definitely stared at the lighting guy and mouthed WHAT THE f**k on a few occasions. But he was into it. He was doing all these "evil Thunderbird puppet moves" that really showed his frontman skills are more valuable than his voice. Speakin...

I think that if we were ever going to get official recordings of the Pearson-era songs we'd have had them by now.
Er, we did get an official recording of one of the Pearson-era songs (although not a Pearson song).
