its as if they are initailly checking that the funds are available for the purchase? The debit card system/maestro some times calls through for authorisation from the bank. This makes the transaction pending i.e it affects your available funds but not the balance as the transaction is not complete....

I heard a story today about last year's T in the Park, peeps bought tickets from Ebay the seller arranged to meet on the day (as tickets are only sent out 10 days before, apparently!) Of course they seller never turned up. Probably on hols in Ibiza with all their dosh.
