Yeah but.....at some point if you are selling your music or entering the musical arena you are 'new'. EVERYONE has to start somewhere and is by definition a new artist. Or unknown. Whatever term you wish to use. Corrine Bailley Rae is new. Elvis was 'new' to most folks before he swung his hips on TV...

[quote="Mr Thorburn"]interesting replies - thankyou. 1. do you have to be on a major to get your tracks on i tunes? i would assume not (now). Absolutely not. Look at Arctic Monkeys. #1 singles x 2. On Domino. Totally indie - no 'major' affiliaiotn at all in the UK. One must rid oneself of ...

Thanks for the kind words: The thing about this single is musically it's been put together by Dangermouse the guy behind the 'Grey Album' the lost mix (due to it being all samples!) of the Beatles 'White Album' and tracks by US rap muppet Jay Z. He's pretty well known anyway! By all accounts the phy...

OK - it IS #1 (in the UK anyway) for what that's worth these days.... but I think whilst you kinda have a point you are all also missing a few other ones :D 1. RE: the huge amounts of control for the artist. This is kind of true. There's nothing in theory stopping anyone: me, you, my postman YOUR PO...

Fantasy Sisters Box Set Tracklisting!

I'm kinda curious as to what folks would want to see in a Sisters box set - should one ever see the light of the day! Or what is out there on boots that has been purloined from 'official' sources that could be reclaimed.... I love my box sets! Got the recent one by the Band a few weeks back and it's...

You're 100% correct . It is MUCH easier. A lot has changed in the 15 years since he last..... released..... Record labels are just banks. The more you borrow upfront - the more in debt you are. The longer it takes to pay it all back. He should re-start Merciful Release as a PROPER indie label and ju...

I don't understand this attitude that the music business being in a shambles... Which bit? The selling records bit? Tell that to Domino Records and the Arctic Monkeys or Warp with Maximo Park or ..... James Blunt. SORRY! Ok folks are a little more careful with their money and may be buying less in t...

The industry is always lucrative, maybe not as lucrative as the late 1980s early 1990s when the Sisters were releasing 'product' on a new and cheap format (CD). Labels merge and come and go - but they will be here for a while... I promise :D Don't get me wrong - I am no fan of the majors!! Your poin...

Just back to the issue of the Sisters and Mute.... I think it's unlikely that the band are entering a partnership with that particular label. I should clarify one point I made. Mute have offices in London AND Berlin and representation around the world. Thanks. Re: the Warlocks. Fine band. Kinda 'dum...

Mute are exactly the kind of record company to cough up a large amount of money to fund the recording of a new Sisters album (thats if a new Sisters hasn't as yet been recorded). Mute are funded by EMI. They are a very solvent label (thanks to you know Depeche Mode, Moby, Goldfrapp, Nick Cave etc et...
