Just got back - left early-ish. Ooooh dear - they're not very good live these days are they. Ouch! Fortified myself with a few beers beforehand - I thoroughly recomend the Junction bar and grill in Tufnell Park. Highlight of my evening was my pork belly with potato gratin and cabbage in a jus. Who'd...

This thread has been great. I've enjoyed it! Essentially we're discussing where SOM are in relation to the business of music as a whole NOW and 'seemingly' Eldritch's lack of understanding of his position within the 'market'. Kinda sad really - but if he has NO IDEA and CARES even less - that is his...

The way the industry works... someone 'gives' you the money (if all this hyperbole is to be believed) to record - advances you (stumps up the cash = lends it to you - like a bank...) X amount for recording or the 'rights' to your recordings (a hugely dumb idea IMO) then you set a budget to market it...

Not to be pedantic - but EMI Publishing are a Publishing Company :innocent: And a rather large one at that... Separate and more profitable arm of the once hugely large and profitable EMI group of labels - now in the 'ownership' of Hedge Fund entrepreneur Guy Hands. bet he regrets that purchase.... T...

If we're talking fantasy record summer camp: Two to three weeks in Electrical Audio - that should do it. Peversely thinking about it they may get on... Perhaps their respective egos would cancel each others out? The last thing ANYONE wants/needs is a SOM album produced by whover the metal producer w...

Simply put - no he couldn't do that. It would be an enormous job for him to do on his 'own'. The thing is Play.com/Amazon/HMV indies etc WILL want a new SOM album - logistics of this would be more than a one man (or cottage style industry) show could cover. He'd need distribution and someone collect...

Basically the press story would be - where the f**k have you been for the past 15 years? Sadly if you're not appearing in the mainstream press you don't exist - to the world as a whole. All the touring they've done since say....1996/97 has been to as folks have said here repeatedly a decreasing loya...

In reply to Eotunums point about the sheer voulme of shops being an issue - the very opposite is in fact true. No Woolies now and no Zavvi either (Virgin as was) bust - gone - kaput -we're talking about HMV, Amazon, Play.com and iTunes now making up the bulk of sales - if SOM released an album sau o...

No major record label in the UK would sign Eldo/SOM - thats the bottom line. Zero interest. None of the bigger indies would either I'd wager (your One Little Indians, Dominos, Beggars Banquets, Cooking Vinyls of this world). It's all a bit Waiting For Godot this isn't it? He could if he wanted to do...

I've heard those stories - Lemmy sticking 'em back out on stage (yeah?), cameras packed up hence the only footage being bootleg stuff (that side of the stage footage that does the rounds). Apologies for the dbl post - dunno what happened there! I guess Wake possibly doesn't represent much what the show was actually like....Mike Mansfield going a bit OTT with the old effects and all. But I have a real soft spot for it as a concert film. Still light when you left! Wow - it must h...

Royal Albert Hall - Wake show - DVD etc etc
Hey there - I've been watching the Wake video a lot recently - alongside FALAA it's probably my personal favourite Sisters document/release and was in fact the 1st thing I ever heard/saw by them and its what got me into the band back in the mid 80s....Going back in time 22 years (ouch!) I would be 1...

My personal experience (and that of my little gaggle of 15 year old mates back in the day - we're talking 1986-87 here:) was hearing Sisters covers - 1969/Gimme Shelter etc BEFORE hearing the originals.... and then going out and buying Stones / Stooges records and really liking them/getting into tho...

Hey there - what the hell was in the water in 1982?! Industrial dub metal... funk?! I was way to young to know what was going on outside of the top 40 (listening to Madness and the Jam) - but it's a fascinating time for music. Birthday Party, Mekons, Fall, Gang Of Four, Theatre of Hate, ya general p...

Ah the art of reasoned debate :innocent: I'm not saying I dislike the band or looking for a squabble here - I'm just hypothesizing - cool you boots Squire :D Maybe I didn't make meself clear. I thought there was a wee bit of a Stoogian/Gonzoid vibe to early-mid period SOM (which I enjoyed and still)...

Sisters - Stooges etc - muciscal avenues not taken thoughts.
Not a regular contributor to this site (I check in time to time to see whats cooking:). Having just listened to FLAA in the office for the umpteenth time - it's got me thinking. I liked the SOM back in the mid-80s. Just a bit too young to gave caught them live - the M***** introduced me to them basi...

I was at the M*****n show at the Top Rank in 1986 and witnessed the security rush the pit (as it were). I was only 14 and at my first 'club show' (Rose of Avalanche in support, they broke a bass string on the 1st song - M*****n were alright ifI remember.. but I was only 14...). It was pretty ugly bi...

How about none of the above? How about - No - tough. Average show that was a bit on the quiet side with someone falling asleep on the smoke machine. It wasn't that bad (wasn't that good either) and I doubt anyone would see a marked improvement if they came and did another one. With or without a soun...

Up until the 60s, 70s, record companies executives generally had some kind of musical training/background. As a result, quality and market value were considered quite synonymous. At least quality was a factor, whereas now the two can be totally separated. Remember it's an overall perspective. Nowada...

You're being overoptimistic. Due to the evolution of the music business over the course of the last 25 or so years, music is much less likely to be properly distributed and promoted than it was say in the 70s. Mainly because back in the day record companies executives used to have a musical backgrou...
