I didn't see it as any slight on music at all...just a heartfelt insight into what it's like to be a deaf person in a hearing world. If you didn't finish the movie it's hard for you to give a balanced view IMO. It was as much about his struggle with his demons not related to his hearing as anything...

i downloaded that movie 2 weeks ago. Watched about 30-40 minutes of it. Stopped it and deleted it from hard drive.
I found it so wrong in so many levels, but that's only an opinion.
