Re: 'HERE'. The successor to 'Paint My Name in Black and Gold'

Which songs are better is a matter of taste, obviously. To me the main diference between the 4th and the 5th album, so to say, is the development of the songs. The 93-98 songs were composed and performed with the idea of a proper recording in mind, so they sound more "finished" to me. They...

Re: What do you think really changed in Andrew's handling of the band/brand?

I think Ben has been infected by the same virus. Look at the Diamond Black releases' history, they have recorded like 5 songs in eight years or something in that area. Kai seems more prolific, but give him some more time with Eldritch and that can be solved...

Re: What do you think really changed in Andrew's handling of the band/brand?

Oh, but he was. I mean, all bands tinker with their songs live, that's part of the appeal of concerts. And yet they record albums, just as writers publish books, filmmakers make films and so on. Releasing stuff is part of the process of being an artist, a document of the time, effort and inspiration...

Re: What do you think really changed in Andrew's handling of the band/brand?

That idea Eldritch has been floating about "not definitive versions of the new songs", "evolving the music" and all that is b*llocks. You can go listen to the first time any of the unreleased tracks were performed live 20+ years ago, then go listen to whatever tour you want inbet...

Re: What do you think really changed in Andrew's handling of the band/brand?

It was possible in the 90's to get a decent record deal, make good money and have artistic independence. It is even easier now. I posted in some other thread about Swans, how Gira resurrected the band 12 years ago simply because he needed the money and how It has worked beautifully for him, both fin...

Re: MRCDBOX clear images on MU for sisterswiki update

If my memory serves 450 DM was, at the time, the equivalent of 220€-$/200 quid. I don't remember exactly how much I did pay for this one, but It wasn't that much, probably around 120€. In fact one of the pictures of the box that are now in the wiki shows a price tag from a record store from Madrid f...

Re: Record Store Day April 2024.

The vinyl fetish also works with bands, absolutely. It has become kind of a status thing, something like "anybody can release a CD, Vinyl it's for real bands". We got through something like that recently with a friend who had to wait two years and a half to have his album finally released ...

Re: Record Store Day April 2024.

Oh, ethics have been always questionable in the music industry. What this RSD/Vinyl/collectors fever has definitely ruined is quality control. It's not only the prices, a lot of the pressings are s*it. But customers have also their say in this. Vinyl has become a fetish, people want it no matter wha...

Re: Record Store Day April 2024.

"They" are all of them. Obviously the Big ones that do 90% of the releases. And also the small, indie labels who have copied their strategy. Some posts above I mentioned my wife's band experience with vinyl mastering. At the same time, september 2020, we were working with the pressing plan...

Re: Record Store Day April 2024.

Yeah, but why bother? This RSD started with some interesting stuff ten years ago. Live, rare or even unreleased stuff at reasonable prices, double vinyls for 35-40€, single ones in the 20's... But that's gone, now it's all re-releases and price has doubled. Why? Because we buy them anyway, so they d...

No idea. But you can figure height and width out through the three jack holes up left. Assuming they're standard their inside diameter is 6.35 mm.

Re: Gift reissue plus extras

But this is a promotional move. Giving VLR 30 CD's is cheaper than buying half a page in the mag for some add. Those digisleeves costed them around one quid each, so it's 30 pounds, half a page would be what, 500? That's it. In any casé it'd be foolish from them expecting a success. This is a re-rel...

Re: The Sisters Of Mercy - The Radio Transmissions - 6CD Box

The sources uses for these releases are, 99.9%, grabbed from guitars101 or someplace like that. Yeah, maybe they passed it through some filters when making the glassmaster to print the CD, but that's it. Probably they sound crispier, yeah, just as much as you can make your files sound crispier by so...

Re: The Sisters Of Mercy - The Radio Transmissions - 6CD Box

I read somebody the other day, in the fb group, complaining about the sound quality. But then you don't know what are this guy's particular sound standards. I don't think those records are any different to the very well known versions available everywhere in the Internet, basically because that's wh...

Re: Gift reissue plus extras

It's an european legislation. The gist of it is basically the same that allowed Italian labels to release bootlegs in the 80's: any public broadcast can bé released without the permission of the copyright owners, you only need to pay upfront a royalty for each copy pressed. At some point in the mid ...

Re: Record Store Day April 2024.

I'm afraid I am a little disdainful of the "it sounds better on vinyl " crowd that are playing their new lp's through really cheap record players. Vinyl sounds really good through my high end system, but then so does a cd. The difference is the price, retail prices for lp's are getting a ...

Re: Is Von crazy for not making another album?

By the way, John Robb shared a post yesterday about having recorded a song for Gary Marx's new album, the name of the band would be M62 apparently. I can't share the post for some reason, but here's the text: ‘I tried to tell her about Marx and Engels…’ celebrating the lyrical genius of #andreweldri...

Re: Is Von crazy for not making another album?

Yeah, but both bands had been pretty active all those years with side projects, it's not the same with the Sisters. There are other examples of bands reunited after years of inactivity, but then again it's a reunion and people judge it differently, like they've been together just the months prior to...

Re: Is Von crazy for not making another album?

Let's not forget about another factor: expectations. Somebody mentioned the other day NMA. There's a new album coming out in some weeks. And no big deal, they've been releasing stuff all this years, pretty good stuff most of the times imho. Then a new album is no big deal, even if some people don't ...

Re: Is Von crazy for not making another album?

Many of you will remember that Eldritch interviewed Bowie in the 90's and asked him what was the point in releasing an álbum he (Bowie) knew didn't match the quality of his 70's stuff. A rather silly question, most artist in any field keep releasing stuff that may not be as great as it was on their ...

I guess they're trying to get at least one extra show in the area that justifies the travelling, like they did with the german/French january dates. If they can't do It probably won't happen, just like the Lisboa one. Otherwise they'd lose money doing just the cancelled show.

Well, from the audience's perspective he's right. You wanna see Ben you look to the left, you wanna see Kai you look to the right. That's not the problem of the review, but being written by another member of the "no live bass player" congregation for whom the last 32 years with no bass pla...
