Greatly enjoyed the various shuffle selections, so thought I would offer my own. Out of 11,818, the ipod seems to have a liking for Clan of Xymox: Clan of Xymox - The Same Dream Danzig - 777 Calvin Johnson & Mark Pickerell - Sand** Cure - Close to Me 16 Horsepower - Day of the Lords Voivod - Sho...

Silver Girl, Hopefully see you there. I may need directions to the American Dream as my preferred haunt was Cafe du Prague and that lovely ransacked old place in Hamra opposite Starbucks. Nearer the time the heartland away team will doubtless swing into action. See you and your chap there, redundanc...

Having cheerfully returned from the excellent Brussels gigs, pleased to note that the Beirut tickets are now on sale:

Hopefully see some of you there. USD31 plus handling for regular standing tickets, there seems to be some vip rubbish too.

Cheers

The Comsats - 26 April

Forgive me as this has probably been posted already and I simply was too imbecilic to find it using the search function, but just spotted the Comsat Angels are playing in Sheffield on 26 April should anyone have similar tastes. Now just need those Beirut tickets to come through and that would be qui...

Finances permitting (and presumably not finding myself under the redundancy guillotine between now and then) I certainly intend to make it - though admittedly holding fire booking until I have obtained a ticket once they go on sale.

Quite so! For tickets, although they are not up there, the following site is selling Forum de Beyrouth tickets (James Blunt, alarmingly enough - what did the Lebanese do to deserve that being foisted on them?) and looks like it will be a decent bet when the time comes: http://www.ticketingboxoffice....

Deffo vote for "you could be the one".

A shame to hear the end is nigh - I remember greatly enjoying strolling down to Fibbers in York back in '98 to see you chaps play.

Perhaps a ten or year hiatus followed by a live return, like another band we know?

Just a follow up - BMI (Heathrow - Beirut) currently seems to be £474 return. Have not had a chance to do further research, so any other input obiouvsly most welcome!

I went out by way of BMI from London in November of last year - but have not had the chance to see if they are continuing their flights. However, it was a cheap alternative then, albeit probably due to the introduction of the new flights and a BMI expansion. That said, the credit crunch and fall in ...

I agree entirely, RobF - save that my own preferred haunt is Cafe du Prague in the Hamra environs. And another little bar, then name of which escapes me but came highly recommended in the Hedonists Guide to Beirut. Though more than happy to try the American Dream. The Forum website seems somewhat ou...

Valeryg and all - lovely pictures, thanks for rekindling the memory of an excellent (and, despite views to the contrary, from where I was lurking, surperb sounding) gig. For those praising the English pub there , Andy, his mum and family/friends were superb (and it was devilishly difficult getting l...

Given up reading the thread - stunned by the usual crap sound references. Those who push to the front, with the hope of seeing our fearless leader (despite knowing the policy regarding smoke and lights) will invariably lose the benefit of clarity of sound - it is ever thus as they are bang in front ...

Oh, and as a ps - Von's vocals and indeed the backing vocals well up at the top of the mix. I don't know why they don't seem to do that elsewhere as a general policy.

They seemed well received by the locals I spoke to, too, if the festival was only moderately attended.

Just back from Burgas so have not had the advantage of reading other people's views - and I'll leave them with the setlist. I watched from the vip/press tent (accidentally walked into it and, seeing it was a good thing with sofas after an all night flight, elected to remain). From their, the sound b...

Not sure Von may necessarily be thrilled with the Burgas site's bio which veers dangerously into the "dark music" arena (and appears to include a typo contradicting their intended interpretation), but at least they have not fallen into the trap of of regurgitating old photo's (save Von's i...

I appreciate it is not a response to a heckler (and so probably should be cast out into the darkness where there is a great wailing and gnashing of teeth for posting off topic) but listing to the "Bei Mir.." boot reminded me of a nice line on stage: [top nite out/snub nose ends] "Ladi...

To be honest, after the excellence of the Tienen gig, it is well worth the risk (and if not, a relaxing holiday with a few good books).

Thanks for the local type's various input on Bourgas side advice, btw.

Thank you for the review, dtsom. I hope he keeps off the Marlboros and avoids speaking for the next week or so. The Young Gods (acoustic), Luminaire - and Ghostrider

Apologies if this is referenced already in the posts. John_r (and another poster) commented on The Young Gods in the "violetstock" thread - querying whether the december shows were electric or acoustic. Having just seen the acoustic version last night, I actually regret December's outing i...
