Re: NEW SONGS!
Is there an argument in favour of some kind of Misery/Stephen King type approach to this problem? A van, some chloroform, a cabin in the woods somewhere equipped with a recording studio and hey presto, bobs your uncle. Yes, you'd go to jail, but at least you'd have some decent tunes to pass the tim...

Re: NEW SONGS!
Definitely remember that he said it, it was something along the line of "real bands release records" and was during the Sisterhood fued. It's important to take it in that context. It's not necessarily his actual opinion, more of a jab at Wayne and Craig, and anyway subsequent events have shown that ...

Re: NEW SONGS!
At least, if Von doesn’t want to produce anything, he could released the songs via « live here ». A very good live album could suits me very well. Intriguing idea. If only Von would consider it :von: He'd probably reply that he has considered it - and rejected it. The whole idea of crowdfunding, li...

Re: Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Next Phase
Amazon USA has it in stock. I just checked. Ships from Amazon. I ordered mine the morning of 05/08 and received it the morning if 05/09. As I came to the party rather late, I’m learning a lot. Very interesting and enjoyable book. Welcome seconded. It occurs to me that it's a brilliant time to be a ...

Re: NEW SONGS!
Like the band, HL thrives on a diet of broken hopes, stale dreams, and the contents of cans of flat warm beer that someone has put cigarettes out in.

Re: Gig videos thanks
Thirded, fourthed and fifthed. For those of us who weren't able to go this year, for whatever reason, it's been wonderful to get the gig reports. The generosity of people making and sharing recordings can never be acknowledged enough. The work of the Wiki maintainers documenting all of this for post...

Re: NEW SONGS!
Some of the clips I've seen give the lie to that, anyway. There seems to have been a very immediate response to most of the new songs, rather that the usual chin-stroking and critical gaze. The main thing that jumps at me is the level of confidence in the band. They're good, they know they're good, ...

Re: Has the fog cleared
"I'd like to think it was the songs that made this band. I know it wasn't. We used a lot of smoke, very few lights, stepped right back and just made a space where you could lose yourself (but more probably find yourself) in a tide of colour and noise." [Sleeve note SGWBM and still the best ever des...

Re: No Covers in the new sets
Giving Ground has a "music&words: Eldritch" credit. _Paint My Name in Black And Gold_ reveals that Boyd Steemson wrote the lyrics, to rush out a single release while Von was in Germany The Sisters website even hinted at that in it's FAQ pages: The "Authorised Version" of 'Giving Ground' is Andrew's...

It's almost as if someone tapped Von on the shoulder, said "you know the sound's been really poor?" and it was honestly the first he'd ever been aware of it.

Re: Least favourite sisters songs
Where was the revelation that is was a Marx-only composition? I feel like I've read a lot in recent months, but I can't remember reading that. I'm pretty sure it was the Mark Andrews book, but think it might have been in the bonus material. Otherwise it was a Marx interview. Edit: just checked, it ...

Re: Least favourite sisters songs
I like NTTC but can understand why others don't. It is rather out of place on side 1 anyway, and the revelation that it was actually a Marx song that he'd somewhat generously co-credited Wayne and Craig for wasn't too shocking.

Re: No Covers in the new sets
2010-17 was awful for new songs though. It was great to see the old songs back for sure, and great to see the odd unexpected surprise like Rain From Heaven, and I really enjoyed the mad year when they worked their way through Surf instrumentals, but new songs? With hindsight, the band was effectivel...
