Saxon's Princess of the Night is about a decommissioned train.

Like so many others I'd be more interested in a compilation of rare unreleased tracks, but I guess we already have something like that in Some Girls Wander By Mistake and the 2006 Rhino reissues with lots of bonus tracks. Any chance for a reissue of Gift, by the way?

Hmmm... the only one I can think of right now is Type O Negative's All Hallows' Eve. It's the perfect combination of their post-punk and heavy metal sensibilities, and one of the rare occasions this band played everything straight.

At least they annoyed the NME for a while.... ;D Which makes them somewhat more acceptable. :D Wouldn't have called them total pants, like you I enjoyed some of their stuff, but they were nowhere near as radical and dangerous as they seemed to think they were. That's actually what I think about SSS...

It's actually pretty funny that Tony James joined the Sisters when they sounded least post-punk...

I like the "ticket to Syria" idea of the road to Damascus. I always had Neverland linked to terrorism in my mind. (Smart money has always blamed the Syrians for the Lockerbie bombing—but of course that happened after Floodland's release.) Then again, didn't I just reason that Floodland ...

Sigue Sigue Sputnik

Another band I've discovered through the Sisters of Mercy, it's not just that SSS mastermind Tony James played with the Sisters but apparently Andrew Eldritch was on the verge of auditioning for Sputnik - I say "apparently" because I got that from Wikipedia who aren't the most reliable of ...

I actually think that the use of Ozymandias in Floodland is also as a representation of the USA. It's easy to forget that in the 80s Reagan pushed the USSR to the brink of nuclear war. The 80s was the era of When The Wind Blows , of Threads , it looked then a lot like the whole sorry mess was going...

Ancient Egypt and the Sisters

Let's talk about the references to ancient Egypt in the Sisters' music. First thing there comes to mind's of course the Eye of Horus on the cover of Vision Thing , then there's Dominion (Mother Russia) quoting Percy Bysshe Shelley's Ozymandias which is of course about Ramses II. Here's my take on it...

For what it's worth, as well as anorexia, the other of the fashion industry's dirty little secrets (not so secret) is the widespread abuse of amphetamines as appetite suppressants for the models. :urff: Shouldn't they have used Amphetamine Logic instead of Temple of Love then? :? The newer means is...

At college I'm reading Gottlob Frege's The Foundations of Aritmethic and Alec Fisher's The Logic of Real Arguments. Both are quite heady stuff, but presented in a somewhat talkative and useful manner.
