Re: Kai as a permanent member

I have no special insight into why Dylan was let go. But let's do some reasonable guessing. On the night in question, I have only seen bad video recorded from the back of the room that show him acting up a bit in response to his monitors not working. It looked pretty mild to me. Like, what is a guit...

Re: Kai as a permanent member

Whatever about Kai - I'm completely ambivelant about the guy - whoever is doing the sound mixing should be locked down. Kai deserves major credit for stepping and keeping things going. I haven't heard anything from him guitar-wise that is in any way notable, but hey if he brings the vibe, fits in an...

Re: "He's not been well"

Being sick away from home is no fun. It's probably also not helpful that he's not in the same place everytime he needs to see a doctor. So getting a picture of how he's deveoping over time would be harder. I don't know Von, obviously, but he doesn't strike me as someone who'd pull a gig lightly. I a...

We''re a broad church :)
Indeed. This is an interesting one though. What I liked about it was that it added a distinct identity to this song. It obviously has it's own vibe but there is nothing else like this in the set. It stands out.

Agree but seems like they stopped having those last drum hits in On The Beach, I miss them
Aw crap, you're right. They weren't played in Italy. That was the best bit.

Still, I suppose it shows the tinkering continues.

Re: NEW SONGS!

Two things - watching another Porto video, the new insertion of the choral parts into the middle (and not just the intro) of This Corrosion sounds steller. Such an obvious thing to do I'm not sure why they haven't done it before? Particularly for the last song of a set, it blows the roof off. That P...

I've watched this clip five or six times now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qb6Lloe_5Kg It's the reworked On The Beach. From 3:10: "We will steal what we cannot buy, when all is stole from us," "We will steal what we cannot buy, when all is stole from us" "We will steal what we cannot buy, when al...

Re: NEW SONGS!

But Genevieve is easily in my top 10 all-time favorite SoM songs list, and When I'm on Fire, She's A Monster and Don't Drive On Ice are easily in my top 25 as well. Agreed. A great time to be a Sisters fan. Evolving new songs that sound better and better, big tours and plenty of tour-drama. And act...

Speaking of, some nice new arrangements happening . . .
Seems like there's been some steady tinkering going on, presumbaly on the tour bus.

Dr Jeep/Det B hasn't sounded like this for a while.

Relentless.

f**king hell. That TC vid above goes off. That's what a Sisters gig should look and sound like.

Why can't every gig sound like that? Levels are perfect and Von sounds f**king sinister. On a good day, nobody growls like he does.

Ben on booze and sobriety

So Ben posted a link to an interview he did some time ago, but in which he didn't use his last name. It's about his relationship with booze and sobriety and it's really, really good. https://recoveryelevator.libsyn.com/re-364-booze-cruise This seems to have been done in February 2022, but he posted ...

Re: Dylan Smith

Well, that appears to be that. New guitarist means no Dylan coming back anytime soon. So for what it's worth, I liked his stage presence, what he brought to gigs and also the role he seems to have played in re-enegising the band. What happens behind the scenes isn't really any of our business, but I...

Re: NEW SONGS!

Speaking of, some nice new arrangements happening - the new end of On The Beach is perfect. Great call from the band - it punctuates the live set and makes that song stand out. Oh, and I gotta say, the vids I've seen of the two gigs that Kai has played at sounds REALLY good. Dunno what's changed, bu...

Re: Dylan Smith

Well, maybe without pressing play on a laptop the whole thing would't work even with two guitars. The Doktor has always been a most essential part of The Sisters sound and rhythm ... :) ... Yep, that's true. But which would be harder, getting Chris up to speed on the new songs, or getting a new Nur...

Re: Dylan Smith

Interesting that Von or whoever could amend the official site to announce rescheduling of the 3 missed or abortive German dates, but didn't bother taking the bit about Dylan off it Yes, I had the same thought. But then maybe things aren't so fixed yet. Do we know that Dylan is gone for good? Maybe ...

Re: The Sisters and the Information age

I think he's an old guy now and doesn't like social media . Lots of older people don't. Even some young people find it very intrusive etc. And I think it's clear that Ben, Chris and everyone around the camp have been asked historically not to comment on Sisters stuff online. Von worked out years ago...

Re: NEW SONGS!

Well, lets do the hypothetical dane: you can record and mix it whatever you want nowadays, you can put vox so loud and so in from of everyother instrument, noise and sound in the mix that it would be audiable enough to carry the lyrics. If you want. Meanwhile it been 32 years since last full studio...

Re: NEW SONGS!

One further point. I'm listening to Ribbons at full volume here as I type and there's virtually no singing in it at all. It's spoken word with a slight variation in tone - but it's amongst the most accomplished and atmospheric examples of Von as a lyricist and artist. It also has those amazing screa...

Re: NEW SONGS!

Some amazing recording artists basically can't sing live. Bernard Sumner of New Order can't carry a tune live to save his life, but it doesn't really matter because he was able to do it in the studio. I have no doubt whatsoever that in a controlled and quiet environment, Eldritch could easily sing w...

Re: NEW SONGS!

I think it'll happen. I used to think it wouldn't, but lately I've come around again. Why? Because he's a contrarian and I believe he takes a significant degree of pride in doing what he wants regardless of others. So I think he'll make a record when he feels like there's no expectation on him anymo...

But I do object to the thread title -- it's more a "Ben Christo Appreciation Post", and rightly so, he is a machine and at the same time very enthusiastic and connecting on the stage! Yeah, I kinda regret that now! I was trying to get the idea across that it seemed to me we were seeing him step up ...

Re: Ben Christo and levelling up

Yeah, I think we're approaching the point that Ben *is* the Sisters guitarist and I don't think there's a band without him. Not that anybody is irreplaceable exactly but Von will hit a point that starting from scratch would be such an enormous effort that you'd have to think he'd be seriously tempte...

Re: Ben Christo and levelling up

I have a feeling that we're seeing something interesting happen in real time. I obviously feel sorry for Dylan - he's not having a good week no matter how it went down. Either he's f**ked around and is finding out, or he's been treated badly - either way not good. But looking past that, I suspect Be...

Re: Ben Christo and levelling up

Yeah, All fair comment. I suppose where I'm coming from is trying to imagine how I'd feel walking onto the stage with Von to try to carry off the gig on Saturday night as Ben did. Like, Chris C is there in the back ground to run the 1s and 0s, but otherwise it's just two people, one of whom is very....
