Re: How do you guys feel about...
I used to have a massive collection of bootleg material, but as the world moved to the digital realm, so did I. Ultimately, I’m not the collector who wants to hoard artifacts - I’m the nerdy obsessive fan who wants to listen to stuff (over and over and over). I think at this point all I’ve got left ...

That's good. The tour shirt I bought in Silver Spring back in May is already falling to pieces.eastmidswhizzkid wrote: ↑27 Nov 2023, 10:57i'll say this for the quality of the Neon 23 tour shirts- its bloody good! Really thick cloth anyways, the longevity (sorry- listening to Moonchild) of the print will be born out in time I daresay.

Re: RIP Shane MacGowan
Its interesting that you dont view U2 (Bono) as being visibly Irish. As a welshman with our own problems with being recognised I always viewed The Pogues as a beacon of Irish fatalism (if that is a term?) where it all ultimately ends in failure and/or alcoholism. U2 also embraced their Irishness (I...

Re: RIP Shane MacGowan
I'm curious how Irish people view him? As a purveyor of Irishness and being proud or as perpetuating negative Irish stereotypes. (or somewhere in between) I always viewed him as a curiosity - I loved "If I should fall from grace" and listended to it constanly when it came out - beautiful lyrically....

Re: RIP Shane MacGowan
I wish I'd gotten to see him live. I had tickets to see Shane & the Popes in Dallas back in 2000 or 2001. The band drove with the gear two days from San Francisco. Shane was supposed to fly into Dallas the day of the show, but apparently they wouldn't let him board. One of the guys from the band tol...

RIP Shane MacGowan
Not sure how many people around here are fans, but he meant a lot to a lot of people in my life. It's not unexpected, of course (I've been listening to The Snake all week, so I guess it was obvious that it was coming). I do wish the Shane Gang record had come out, or that he'd had people around him ...

Re: Kai as a permanent member
Dylan updated his Insta bio to read "Writer/guitarist The Sisters of Mercy 2019-2023." So that happened. Looks like he's permanently out. Apology wasn't accepted I assume it to very much have been a "straw that broke the camel's back" sort of thing. Von has always struck me as a pretty deliberative...

Re: Kai as a permanent member
Yet it sounds a bit nasty @Ocean Moves. But i guess you're missing how much his guitar style has changed over the time, from full guitar wanking to knowing when to use pause, letting the air play its role. Yes, I agree - he's become much more subtle and nuanced a player over time. I've really come ...

Latest Sisters ish? purchase As the only bidder I have just bought a long sleeved black t shirt off of the bay which claims to be an Under The Rock thing, with an UTR logo on the back and on the front the words Subliminal Message: Heroin Satan f**k 'scuse language. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/tA...

Re: Happy Birthday Vision Thing - the Album
On the other hand he kinda has a point, and the 4 songs he remixed for the original 1985 release bear it out: these are significantly different, more lively, more energetic, punchier, than the more common "Japanese mixes" versions. Likewise the NTTC B sides have the old Sisters pep in their step th...

I realize it's heresy, but I agree with you... don't HATE FALAA, and I own it, but I rarely listen to it. It's interesting that while some kind of rough consensus exists for the other 2 LPs Everybody else thinks FALAA is nonsense turgid sub-bauhaus twaddle too? That surprises me. :innocent: :twiste...

Re: On the Beach
Now stop me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but like others, I'd assumed from the out that this song took its title from the Nevil Shute novel and the Stanley Kramer film adaptation - it gets interesting from there though. "On the beach" was, at the time the novel was written, navy slang for no lo...

Black Pumas, Chronicles of a Diamond - absolutely outstanding neo-soul (for lack of a better description) out of Austin, Texas. Some of y'all will really like it I think.

Cleaning house and packing for an unplanned trip to Dublin (any suggestions on things to do or places to go? I believe I'll be south of the river, north of Beggar's Bush).

Yeah, I enjoyed it because it did something different with the song, rather than just try replicate the original but with doomier deeper vocals, and a doomier deeper bassline, and doomier deeper drums. When a song can be transposed to a completely different style but still emerge intact, it shows h...

That's good stuff. Definitely more on the hardcore side of things than I expected given "east bay" + "melodic," and that's a good thing.

Not to mention all of the NDAs needed to keep gossip mongers at bay. Do you have a source for these apochryfal NDA's? What gossip would he be worrying about? He sacked a guitarist? The Sisters are not Metallica or the Rolling Stones, outside in the real world no-one cares about some old rock band f...

No love for U2, huh? Okay. Still the Sphere is a new development that is leaving old Vegas behind. LV changes a lot over time, anyway. I've got time for Rattle & Hum and everything prior, but not a big U2 fan. Bono is a well-meaning but sanctimonious twit who doesn't always think before he a...
