Re: New music discoveries

Fontains D.C. first time listened them on the radio driving a car, the latest single ( Starbuster ), I've found production, sound, and this lyrics. Then I started to dig. Superb stuff, lots of genres you know from the late 80's and 90's, and some post-punk but filtered and served in a unique way. A...

Whole album is fantastic really but this is on repeat:

For drinking in that neck of the woods I've always liked McCoy's over on 9th (it's a dive where my granddad enjoyed a pint, as well as my dad when he worked in The City) or the Russian Vodka Room if you're feeling fancy.

This one's almost a certainty for me. Well... tickets bought, but I was just offered a promotion which could potentially interfere. So, we'll see. If you want to gamble on my work life benefitting you, keep an eye on this space - if I can't go, and my Pittsburgh friend can't find a babysitter to al...

I might try to do this one. I hate driving into Baltimore though.

Brewer's Art isn't far from the venue for people looking for drinks. And they're both pretty close to the MARC/Amtrak station.

This one's a maybe. The city has clearly changed since I moved away - there used to be almost nothing around there.

What an unexpected surprise. I'll probably do Pittsburgh (McKees Rocks) and maybe Dallas or Baltimore.

Re: Currently getting into the groove to

This new Melvins record is really good. I got the new High on Fire as well but… well, it’s HoF and it sounds like them but it’s too metal and not enough rock and roll for me (nothing but Motörhead can scratch the Motörhead itch).

I dig it. It was always one of my favorite of the oldest new songs. It would have been phenomenal if it had gotten a proper studio recording.

Re: Where are you off to? Enquiring minds need to know

Heilung were phenomenal. I kind of wavered on going, but I'm glad I did. Swans I've seen three or four times before, and they've always blown me away. Not this time. I never thought I'd describe a Swans gig as boring, but this was f**king boring . The ratio of brilliance to art-wank was far too heav...

Swans next Friday, and then Heliung a few days after that. Next show on the calendar is The Chisel/Home Front/CMI. They're playing at an expensive new-ish waterfront development in DC and I can't imagine what the crowd will be like. Government lawyers cosplaying as working-class I'd guess.

Corb Lund's new one, El Viejo. I very much like it - as usual, excellent songwriting, clever lyrics, and outstanding musicianship.

He's always stomps / lumbers across the stage for years. He's no Rudolf Nureyev... Let's not look for stuff that isn't there. There have been some clips I've seen over the last couple of years that make it look to me like he might be dealing with some back pain (I say this because I was a in a car ...

I dated a gal in the 90's who owned one, and had the pleasure of driving it through west Texas once. That thing was a beast of a car (the girl was not beastly at all - sweet girl, rich parents).

Re: NEW SONGS!

To be fair, the "live Bassist" question is a valid one. Craig Adams was effective because he was used to working with a drum machine; Tony James is generally considered not very good. I get this. I largely learned to play with a drum machine, so I tended to have pretty good timing. Back i...

I have a terrible prediction. First, I'm pretty sure the Antwerp gig will go ahead after 2 days rest. But what will happen is that Von will be determined to book another tour to make up for the Gent and Eindhoven dates. And he'll collapse and *those* gigs will be rescheduled. And so on and so on un...

AI is not able to do a new Sisters album and never will be. I think the deprerssing thing is that if The Sisters play a song a live that was written by AI we would not recognise the difference. I don't think the new album with AI is dropping like that (new songs, new compositions), but I very much ...

Re: Is Von crazy for not making another album?

That's not how recording contracts work. You can't get around them by simply releasing the material free of charge online. Every music video ends with a copyright statement that it belongs to the record company, which was conspicuously lacking from the Suzanne video. If this theory were true the Pa...
