Re: we love to...

It's not the Sisters. It's one of those rip-off bands from the late 90's/early 2000's.

Here you go:

Re: currently cutting a rug to

The brand-new Shriekback album, 1000 Books . Quite liking it, though it seems there are more Carl Marsh vocals and less Barry Andrews vocals than I’d like. “Slowly At First, Then All At Once” is quite lovely, and definitely the standout so-far. I created an account here just to ask, where on earth ...

I'm sorry to hear that, EB. I read earlier today that around 40% of Omicron infections are completely asymptomatic.

Re: Gary Marx interviewed by Mark Andrews

I have to say, he’s a class act. Even when he’s given the opportunity to slag off Von, he doesn’t do so. In my beloved Texas, I think we’d call him a “hoss.”

Re: New music discoveries

Great stuff. The guitar on this one always reminds me of The Sisters doing Ghostrider. And it's a lovely t-shirt - RIP Benjamin Vallé. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opFwj4dTtBc Thank you for introducing me to what may well be my new favorite band. Well, maybe I shouldn’t go that far - but I’m buy...

Re: Read, read, read!!!! education, imagination, humour

Currently reading A Furious Devotion: the Authorized Biography of Shane MacGowan . It’s quite sad, actually - he comes off as a very talented but rather naive guy who was surrounded by people who had little to no interest in actually looking out for him when it started to go off the rails (Sinead O’...

Zeal & Ardour on the 21st. And I’ve still got Neubauten tickets for Luxembourg in the summer - hopefully the show will happen.

Got it earlier tonight - already about a hundred pages in. And yes - a larger volume than expected. Thoroughly enjoying it so far!

Re: famous covers

Just found a brandnew release on my Spotify Release Radar - Body Electric by Then Comes Silence. I think it‘s crap. :| I don't know if I'd call it crap necessarily, but by 90 seconds in I'm thinking "bland and uninspired; ultimately, really boring." Which I suppose is worse than being bad, really. ...

Re: Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Next Phase

Anyone else expecting in the States? Mine just got to New York...! Given the reviews so far, am sure I won't be disappointed. Yeah, mine too. Then handed off to the USPS, and given how effective they are in my city, I figure there's a 50% chance I don't get it, and if I do get it, a 50% chance I on...

Re: Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Next Phase

Haven't even gotten my shipping notification yet, though they did ask me to confirm the address. Here's hoping to see it soon, and in one piece (USPS here in DC is shockingly unreliable, to the point where I won't send anything remotely important through them. And even if it does show up unscathed, ...

Re: Rumours and half baked truths . . .

It'll never happen but he could get a deal if he wanted - Johnny Marr has just re-signed with BMG and is selling way less than 50k per album. If anything his figures went down each album and he still got a deal. I don’t know why he didn’t go for one of the big independents. If Epitaph/ANTI- (to use...

Re: Re-re-run of currently watching

Talking about this really has me giving it serious thought to a course on tragedy and comedy. Maybe I can get away with it if I don't step on the literature department's toes.

I have been wanting to teach a course on Aristophanes too! I routinely assign the Clouds in my introductory philosophy courses, paired with the Apology of Socrates. Maybe I can talk my admins into letting me teach a course on ancient Greek comedy and tragedy...

Re: Re-re-run of currently watching

I would love to see a big Hollywood production of the Oresteia . I saw a performance of a modernized version of the trilogy (compressed into one play) a few years ago, and it really bothered me, as it ended not with the transformation of the Erinyes into the Eumenides, but with everyone forgiving ea...
