Freakshow

Ghostpoet album in at 13 in Mojo's Top 50 of the year. They reckon this has a touch of the Sisters about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzF00zaK56I

2017 Interviews

No press badge on me in the AB, although I was hanging around. Nor anything forthcoming from me, so no breath should be held. Maybe next year, I'll try writing something else on The Sisters. No clue what yet ......Way back in the year, The Sisters' camp gave out the message that Andrew was doing no ...

Those Daft

I got the impression that he thought Heartlanders en masse didn't like him, or at least the forum had an anti-Wayne policy. Easy to draw that conclusion since his name can't actually be used here. It's true some Heartlanders don't like him, some are indifferent, some seem to rather like The m*****n....

I'm the bloke who did the interview (and am an occasional HL poster). I didn't realise until after I wrote the article that HL uses an auto-correct; I thought everyone typed them in like that. Hussey didn't seemed rankled that much by it but did clearly assume that the forum to a (wo)man had a stron...

Source of Eldritch Quote

Just re-read the original post properly. The quote from Eldritch was from a 90 minute phone interview conducted last year. So unless he's quoting himself verbatim, the quote is original to the interview. He's probably said something similar in the past and rejigged if for The Quietus interview, but ...

Fact Check for The Quietus, please

Thanks for providing the live debut date and for the extra Ashton info. I've seen his YouTube clip and have always assumed "Andrew's house" was 7VP. If the demos of the 4 songs that were recorded a week later at KG's in Bridlington were indeed in a recorded in a basement, then that makes 7VP, which ...

Fact Check for The Quietus, please

I'm the Road Kill who did the recent interview with the band in The Quietus ... I have a much longer piece on early Sisters and Leeds coming out in tQ to co-incide with the November tour. Just have to finish it ... One knotty problem is the chronology relating 7VP to the writing and releasing of Ali...

F&L&A without Eldritch?

Having lit the blue touch paper ... I'm with Nik. a) Not interested in FALAA with a guest singer while the real singer is alive. And definitely not with Billy Corgan. b) Although 1984/5 is when I came in, the first side of the album hasn't worn that well for me. "The Marx Side" however is sensationa...

Sisters Songs Covered

Very, very interesting thread!
Enjoyed Superchunk and Kiss The Anus ... a lot actually.

Never knew there were so many absolutely foul industrial/goth/metal versions of Sisters tracks out there.

Lambchop still way in the lead for me.

St John's, Oxford. Matriculation Photo. 1977: Part 2

Very interesting alternatives ... My memory of viewing this photo in St John's (in the late 80s or early 90s) is that everyone was labelled underneath - name corresponded to position. This is how I was able to identify Boyd Steemson, a man I have never met or previously seen a photo of. Either I com...

Apologies if this one's been done; I'm Road Kill. Did a a Search ... Smart money would say Gang of Four or Public Enemy. I'm going for The Scientists. Coventry Polytechnic 1985. First Sisters gig. First gig, full stop. Can include bands below Sisters at festivals. Or flip it: best band the Sisters s...

... and that is indeed an interesting article.

Definitely chafing against 10 years of being (perceived as) Dark Lord Eldritch; "very quiet ... thoughtful" bookish, maybe even nerdy, Taylor getting a good run-out here ..

I'm going to stick with my first guess: "I'd vote for something prosaic: maladjusted teenager finds themselves stuck on a course they don't like and in a university they don't care for and takes counter-measures, none of which involve lectures, tutorials or essays. Leaves by mutual consent after fix...

1. Absolutely - mental health is the main reason for Oxford students not finishing, or having to take a year somewhere to sort themselves out. Another option is taking their Finals while receiving treatment. Rumour has it that the Warneford (and Littlemore Mental Health Centre) in Oxford has a highe...

St John's, Oxford. Matriculation Photo. 1977: Part 2

Oxford has a minuscule drop-out rate, whatever the cause of people leaving. Someone not making to the Second Year, like Eldritch, is really rare. Far more likely to be academic work or health-related than disciplinary. If the latter, it would have been major. No blind eye's could be turned ... Or no...

Yes, I will have a shot at uploading this stuff. But be warned: 1. The photocopy is a very low quality black and white and might well frustrate as much as enlighten. Frankly rubbish quality, but if something is better than nothing ... 2. The Tour Handbook - I got it via a friend of a friend, so I do...

St John's, Oxford. Matriculation Photo. 1977

It's an official photo with students posed in rows. Almost certainly taken the very day of matriculation in the Sheldonian Theatre - round the corner and over the road from St John's. All 1977's new members of the college are in sub fusc - formal attire: dark suit, Commoner's Gown, white bow tie. Ea...
