Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Next Phase

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Today I received an e-mail from unbound asking if I wanted the name of the supporter printed in the book changed.
They said that after May 27th any changes might not make it into the book. Seems to me that it‘s going to be printed pretty soon. :D :D :D
Not much longer to wait fortunately ;D
Had that e-mail as well , hopefully be getting it before summer's done :D

Glad to hear it’s progressing. Despite pledging, I’ve not heard from them in over a year.

I'd suggest sending MAndrews a PM on here and chase Unbound up via the author.

Great idea. But I'm also a dummy and the reset mail actually went to a different folder in gmail. All is good now...forgot I'd given my work address for shipping (this is over two years ago). If it's any time soon, I probably still won't be in the office...

Just noticed this on the Unbound website: "It’s getting close. Pre-order a reward now – the supporter list is closing at 11pm (BST) on Sunday 23 May 2021". Therefore it seems there are only a few days left to pledge and get your or someone else's name in the book. Seems logical since it's off to the typesetters ...

I was hoping for August. That would have been 6 months from the finished manuscript being handed over. Well, the winter is long. Enough time to read it approximately 16 times.   :von:

I did buy Wayne‘s book when it came out and read it once.
How can I put this…
At the time of the break-up I took Von‘s side and I could never relate to the m*****n. I think I still have the first two 12“ singles but never really liked them.
Although I do acknowledge that Wayne is probably a nice chap, I only bought the book for the part about the Sisters. And I think Wayne has a way of shooting little arrows at Andrew even now.
So as much as I found much of the firsthand information very interesting, I have not reread it yet.

Maybe someone up there in Leeds can persuade Mark/Gary to write a book?! I think that would be a constant on my bedside table. 8)

it made me laugh my head off; from the very first sentence the book is clearly not being paid for by Eldritch in any way:

"...the cult band who invented Gothic Rock."

Full disclosure ... very, very little Goth content in the book. But anyone selling books for their living would be missing a trick not to drop the G-bomb.

i am proud to be called a Goth. i am proud to be the Sisters biggest fan -others may love them as much as I but no-one could love them more- and if Andrew doesnt like it then thats the way it is.

On Amazon for only £16.

Must admit to finding that a little galling, as someone who pledged whenever it was (best part of two years ago). I just want to read the actual book - I don't need my name in the thank you list, and/or an e-book.
I'm pleased that by pledging I helped make it happen, but seems a bit back to front that all this time on, non-pledgers get to pick it up at a much lower price.

I remember getting access to a snippet or two, but they seem to have dried up too.
I guess I hadn't realised that the wait would be this long, and that in the meantime we'd get Trevor's amazing book.
I stand by my post that the articles Mark did for The Quietus were two of the best, if not The Best pieces of music writing I've ever read, but starting to think that I over-expected on this one.
Andrew, Dylan and Ben have managed to write half a new album in the time that it's taken this manuscript to become a reality.

To anyone who pledged: without you there would be nothing. I would just note this: if the 'basic' print book pledge level had been set at Amazon/Bol/Rough Trade levels, it would have taken much, much longer to reach 100% - months and months more. For a long period of time, it seemed the book would not fund and there would be sweet FA for anyone to read. That uncertainty would have been extended by some considerable time. Those who pledged, at whatever level, anyone who has a copy of the book after 28 October - from whichever supplier - owes you a huge debt. And so do I. I've tried to write a book that's significantly better than the Quietus articles in order to repay that debt. From a practical publishing point of view: first manuscript was submitted August 2020. Then there was a structural edit and rewrites. Then, a detailed legal read and re-write. And then another legal read. Then a copy edit and rewrites. Then first proof, second and then third. The book got better each time. The slow bit was the legal reads - guess why? The end result is 440+ pages/90,000+ words and another 60,000 in the PDF extra. Has it been worth it? It has for me. Pledgers will make up their own minds, since t's their book too.
