Eldritch-isms

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

"...more songs about taking drugs!"

also;

"i've had enough gack to raise an army!" *proving that at some point we were getting it from the same people /man. (long story)
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

There is increasing evidence to suggest that Chris may have been being sarcastic.

I had a thought the other day... was "Enjoy the puppet show" a Spinal Tap reference?

See my signature. :)

(In fairness I only realized it relatively recently too, but in hindsight it should have been very obvious.)
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Eldritch has reaffirmed his love for Spinal Tap repeatedly, his US touring company is called Hello Cleveland Inc. The implication from Crystal Palace is that he thought it was beneath the Sisters to be opening for the "puppets" in Depeche Mode (which may have also referred to that band's live sets being mainly pre-recorded at the time).

That tour when they introduced live drums and massively increased the live guitar?

I assumed that DM was who they were referring to in the late 90s:
It's been a long time since we changed one of the Doktor's standard voices. We've created and collected a lot of "special effects" drum sounds, but we don't use them live because the sound would vary too wildly from song to song. It's not a practical solution unless you have everything submixed with automation - or running off a tape machine, like certain electronic bands we know (and all of the very famous ones we don't know). They might as well just play the record. We like a bit of risk, and we like to be able to tinker with things from concert to concert.

Dunno, but DM's beds from that era are circulating on youtube and they're not excessive - everyone onstage (even Fletch!) is playing something.

Wow, bit rich coming from Mr. Tape-Hiss-1983-Doktor-man.

Gent, 16 May 1991, after the last song.
There's a video of that gig where AE runs through the audience during the encore. Believe he was all revved up after Man Utd beating Barcelona for the cup the night before...
