headline slamming through

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

sort of -- it's hardly surprsing though, as it was Bush snr who first coined the phrase, roundly satirised by Von (and many others). Bush the First was accused of being short-termist and rather vaguely averred that he had the 'vision thing'.

in the song, there's also somethign about 'one million points of light' which was also a phrase Bush used in talking up america.

how prescient it all seems, etc, etc.

I doubt if even von had an inkling of the vile dynasty to follow though.

oh, well, the song is all about that election campaign ('take back what I paid for another motherfucker in a motorcade' etc).

there was a sisters lyrics analysis site that used to be good for this sort of thing. Here's the Vision Thing entry:

They did a few of the songs and then went strangely quiet and didn't produce anything ever again... hmm. Now what/who does that remind me of? :innocent:

Now that's planning, huh? Von's last album concerned a Mr George Bush and the New World Order, the 'What we say goes' mentality, the short-termism, etc.

See? Von had it all planned out. He doesn't have to release a new album now--why repeat himself?

Actually, anyone notice that numerous industrial-type groups are all united in their hatred of Bush, and they make a now-tired point of repeating this in their albums:

Suicide Commando - Axis of Evil (see some of those song titles)
KMFDM - WWIII (yeah, see some of those titles, too)
Skinny Puppy - The Greater Wrong of the Right (yeah, Bush is the subject here as well)
Ministry - Houses of the Mole (worked 'W' into every single song title)
FLA - Civilization (suggesting that perhaps ours is coming to a close)

Something tells me that The SoM have played their last shows in the USA (how many years ago?)
