Doctor Jeep? WHY NOT?

And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. well well it's a small world at elektra here in the states and it smells funny,
the first time i heard vision thing i was taken back as well, yet there are some definite reasons imo for the sound of the album:
1) in the states who was on elektra ond huge at the time, just ready to release their new album to follow up on the success of "one" on mtv? metallica's "black album" was released the same year which spawned the era of a thousand worthless singles for elektra, including the cure at the time...
2) obviously in line with mockery of the current popular sound, i think that the motorhead stuff started around then as well right? well see above on that one as well, not saying that a.e. doesn't apprieciate lemmy's vocals (all in the key of A) and heavy glamorization of amphetamine abuse...
3) to update the sound, and shed even more of the shadow that i believe that gary left personally looming, and wayne left professionally, we all know by now that Andrew got the Mekons guitarists to guest play the parts on Floodland, and while it's good i'd rather hear Adam or even Wayne hitting the lead on Flood II any day, I wonder how Wayne would have played the guitar parts on Floodland?
4) what would be a testament to us few and far between that know that the sisters are the epitome (contrived as it may be) of a rock band, and that andrew's lyrics could really stand alone as poetry (no matter his own personal reservations about t.s.eliot) is if The Current Band Re-recorded A Bunch Of The Old Favorites and made the new album a double cd!
I can hardly think of any songs that do not sound improved that they play live other than dominion and this corossion...

adam is the bomb and andrew better not let him go...
too bad they are so anal about making a record...

I actually heard 'Vision Thing' before FLAA and SGWBM, and while it's not quite as good, in my not-so-humble opinion, I still love it. I enjoy a bit of hair metal, me!

Having followed the band since Alice, I liked everything that they have ever made. I thought Vision Thing was a natural progression, with tongue firmly in cheek for the "rock sound" (trying desperately to drop the goth tag).

But I could be full of crap..... :roll:

Vision Thing is a great album, could have done with being longer though...

Ribbons sounds bloody great on headphones.. almost orgasmic

Indeed it does. Just listened to it earlier, actually... though it would be better if you could actually hear the bass. Come to think of it, never mind. It's easily the least interesting bass line on any Sisters track. It easily makes up for it with one of my favorite riffs. :notworthy:

I recall in an issue of UTR the reproduced ad of 'Dr Jeep' at the Sheraton in...Munich, was it? I don't remember. I take it that was real--the reference was to a piano bar player named Dr Jeep who played at a Sheraton? Or was the ad and accompanying blurb a put-on?

It makes for a witty little edge to the song...no matter what, Dr Jeep just plays on and on and on...

Anyone ever think the ASCOB version is really a butcher job? At three minutes, it's just too short and shiny for me...
