Hey Joe/Purple Haze, Stairway to Heaven

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I've got a dodgy old bootleg tape of the Sisters doing these three tracks live, and I was trying to track down the dates of the gigs.

From various info I have, the version of Stairway to Heaven comes from Blackburn (King George's Hall?) 21/03/85, and the Hey Joe/Purple Haze medley comes from Manchester (university?) 13/09/84, but this info is not certain.

Do any of you learnéd anoraks have any additional info? It's always been my guess that they played Stairway to Heaven while one of the guitarists tried to mend a fault on the drum machine, but that's just pure speculation.

Cheers

13th October 84 for the Manchester gig, but otherwise, your dates/locations are correct ;D

oh yes, many times -it's wonderful. Actually I just sent you an email about your site.

But I was particularly interested in the reasons for playing Stairway to heaven without a drum machine - it sounded like something they did to keep the crowd happy while something technical (the Doktor) was being fixed...

It wasn't a mistake, they also played it in the soundcheck.
Sadly the soundcheck is an even worse recording than the gig, which is a pretty abysmal recording in itself.
