Autumn Moods

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. i'd also recommend james taylor's "best of" and patti smith's "horses" for when one feels in that kind of mood...

incidentally, i've seen that "witchwood" album kicking around 2nd hand shops for years - i assume its not referring to the witchwood gig venue on ashton-under-lyne? :lol:

I was thinking it was about those CDs you see in Marks and Sparks, generally purchased by the kind of person who frequents the Mind Body Spirit section in bookshops. :P

Now, Mr Blast, I have to take issue with your inclusion of 'Mask', by Bauhaus. That is without question a winter album (as are all albums by The 'Haus). Everyone knows that! What's the matter with you, man!

Sorry, don't mind me, I think it's often a matter of when one purchases a record (I got 'Mask' for Christmas a few years back). I have to confess, I actually plan when to buy certain records, because they get so inextricably linked with the time I buy them in my head - and I want to get the right ones linked to the right seasons. :roll: Am I making any sense?

To Bring You My Love - PJ Harvey
Some Girls.. - Sisters
Tinderbox - Siouxsie and the Banshees
Nico - Drama of Exile
I would say Patti Smith, if I hadn't gone and bought 'Horses' in April, so that's when it reminds me of. Her sound is better suited to Autumn, I think.

I also listen to a lot of EBM, synthpop and industrial in Autumn, but that's in anticipation of Winter.

If you're wanting *THAT* Autumn feeling (definitions vary, but you KNOW what I mean)...

...Then Mr David Sylvian (formerly of Japan - the band not the country) will always provide...

Try these albums and feel suitably...melancholy:

* Brilliant Trees
* Gone To Earth
* Secrets Of The Beehive (this is a particularly autumnal classic...especially the rather appropriately autumnally named 'September')

If these don't make you sigh in a what-coulda-been-but-there's-still-hope-just-not-that-much sorta way then nothing will...You clearly have no soul... :? :roll:

Plus, if these don't work (my god, what do you need?) try Talk Talk's Spirit Of Eden or Laughing Stock or Mark Hollis' (of Talk Talk) solo album from 1999(ish)... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Beth Gibbon and Rustin Man's Out of Season is a great autumn album. Anything very sad and poignant, really. Bury Me Deep is an autumn song. Perhaps Lights too, or that may be winter: the night draws near and the daylight fades...
Floodland is obviously an autumn album, and was released close to my birthday, but is a rather strange variety of autumn record I think. A Forest by the Cure. Anything by Nick Drake. Anything you associate with going back to school, or starting college...

Abbatoir Blues is a cracking title, IMHO. Good description of his own music... much better than "industrial groove machine"... :innocent:

Alice Cooper - Welcome to my nightmare !!! (verry nice for the Autumn Moods)

Some how this albums keeps popi'n up every time at this time of the yaer. The music make's you feel like the cold air out side, but still keeps you safe !
I was quite impressed until I hit the floor,.....Isn’t that what friends are for ?

Oh, and get a copy of the compendium 'Death' published by Granta, especially the story about Robinson, mystery p-sshead in Soho. Thinking about that guy will keep you occupied when you're by the fireplace.
