John Peel dead

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Breaking news on the radio. Apparently a heart attack whilst on holiday. No other details available ...
Loki was never worshiped as the other Gods,
Which is quite understandable.

just heard it announced on Radio 2, shocker!
"And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere".

Gary Marx and Andrew Eldritch made some t-shirts in anticipation, and huddled by the radio until ... John Peel played the record. They swear he played it twice.

That's absolutely awful! The world has lost a real star. God, he was only 65. Poor Sheila the Prawn...

  Oh god. I only found out just there, reading the title of the thread. That is really awful - I loved that guy. So funny, and he never grew out of his obsession with 'young people's music'! 8)

I hope they play "Teenage Kicks" (proper version) on the radio tonite, in tribute. He'll be missed.

Not good, not good at all.

Mrs. Gripper still tends to repeat a Peelyism whenever I play a Sisters song: "Rum Tum Tum with The Sisters of Mercy" as he once said.

A poignant memory came into my head- I remember him saying once that he tended to hear people telling him that they listened every night to his show and thinking what dull lives they must lead, and that he rather preferred those who liked to tune in occasionally 'just to check I'm still there.' It's hard to believe that when we tune in next time, he won't be...

i grew up listening to him ,
on medium wave
in mono

and the music has always been bloody good.
what are we going to do now?certainly no one could replace him.

You too?
The ONLY person on radio EVER in the whole F U C K I N WORLD who played Apples and Oranges by Pink Floyd BEFORE it was bloody well released. I went to see Syd and the boys at Hull Polytech back in the days of hippy bells and paisley shirts (yeah, I'm THAT old suckers!) and all because of one JOHN PEEL. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
John Peel ... they should name a planet after him.
