For people using AVG (Anti-Virus Guard)

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Isn't AVG the one that quarantines a virus but doesn't delete it?

A friend had some sort of a virus that apart from attaching itself onto every exe file it did no other harm. Obviously they wanted to get rid of it, so they installed AVG which promptly quarantined the infected files. Internet Explorer was one of the infected files, and AVG had quarantined it meaning they were unable to browse to seek further help. Marvellous.

when i was cleaning up a friends pc recently i installed a whole raft of av software (avg being one of them) and spyware/malware/whatever removeal stuff.

the pc really was on its knees with all the rubbish running on it, and all the different av programs seemed to remove some stuff, and not be able to remove others. it was only the combination of removal tools and whatnot that managed to clean it completely :0

i thought avg seemed ok, if a little techie to use. no matter what i tried it wouldnt remove "downloader small 9a" (or somesuch) though...

i eventually ended up sticking norton av on it and giving it him back - norton seemed the easiest one for them to use (them being non techie types), but it took an age to fully remove everything nasty from it. :urff:

Never had probs with AVG, works fine for me.

If you think Norton is 'the best antivirus ever', just de-install it and see what happens to your system...

It RUNS.

Putting Norton on your PC is like making a 10.000 pound wolfram cage to put over your Toyota Starlet. You won't have many damage to your car in the future...

Thanx C3!

Try an online virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/houseca ... t_corp.asp
I find that site's very good.

There's a box to tick before you start the scan and it'll automatically delete the viruses for you. Glad it worked anyway.
