CellThree speaks the truth, although I thought it was an unreleased 3000 Revs Album, I'm usually wrong BTW

I am astonished that Sisters fans would have no idea why the album was named as such. The reasons would appear to be two-fold:
Firstly, yes, the songs have the over-blown and grandiose pomposity that appealed to Von's sense of humour.
Secondly, Germany rose like a phoenix from the ashes of WWII. The rebuilding that occurred after Britain's endless bombing of German cities created a modernized country that has allowed it to become, ironically, a powerhouse of prosperity compared to industrial-age England.
Considering that Von left England to live in Germany and has often criticized aspects of English life, no doubt he saw an opportunity to rub England's nose in it.

I don't often give much thought to the meanings of song or album titles, but when this question was asked the first thing that came to mind was that it may refer to the Allied carpet-bombing of German cities during the war.Black Biscuit wrote:Secondly, Germany rose like a phoenix from the ashes of WWII. I always thought that the title was reference to East West putting out yet another compilation of old stuff. Overbombing the market as it were.

He said that? I thought the tracks were chosen because, aside from Vision Thing and Mother Russia, they all were singles.hallucienate wrote:The songs on the album are the more bombasitc ones, or so he said in a Swedish interview around the time of it's release.nodubmanshouts wrote:Ah, rightio... anyway idea why he chose it though?

I'd go with Rivers, East West had nailed the public with the second compilation in a very short period with only 1 new track (UTG)

Yeah, I'd go with Rivers too... but anybody know for sure?
Personally, I don't think the title has anything to do with WW2, but if somebody knows for sure...

Yes it was a working title for 3000 Revs but i still feel Eldritch felt it decribed EW release policy to get some money for the back catalogue with bugger all new product and a very cheap release in terms of having to only pay for one track!

I agree with this, like most things related to the Sisters there is always more than one meaning.the-happening wrote:Yes it was a working title for 3000 Revs but i still feel Eldritch felt it decribed EW release policy to get some money for the back catalogue with bugger all new product and a very cheap release in terms of having to only pay for one track!

I seem to remember that the "slight case of over-bombing" was a euphemism for the way Cambodia was "bombed back into the stone age" during the Vietnam war?

If they'd added 1959 and Black Planet, then it'd be an audio version of Shot Rev 2.0.ryan wrote:well that explains why 1959 wasnt on there then
And UTG was the only new song, but TOL92 was still an unreleased track at the time, even if it was just a remix.

TOL92 was released as a single in, erm, 1992, to promote SGWBMDark wrote:If they'd added 1959 and Black Planet, then it'd be an audio version of Shot Rev 2.0.ryan wrote:well that explains why 1959 wasnt on there then
