putting a damper on my swimming plans

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

The Dutch, or maybe the British. I forget. Table Bay (the one with Table Mountain in the background) was the "real" bay, the one with the dock. False Bay was a much bigger bay just around the corner from Table Bay. Sailors use to get confused between the two.

I feel sorry for the shark - it's HIS f u c k i n g habitat, after all. Imagine swimming along all happy like in your little puddle and having to come face to face with a 70-odd year old human female splashing around and polluting YOUR water. I would have been pissed off too.
If I wander into Hillbrow in the middle of the night, or early morning, I EXPECT to get, at the very least, mugged ...
If you wander into a shark's habitat, expect to get a bit of a nibble from time to time, otherwise stay the hell out of the freaking water.
