Heinz Beans

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I've been an avid consumer of Heinz beans for many a year (no farting jokes please) but now they suddenly taste different....... well not just different but horrible. There is a kind of metallic and bitter taste to them. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

beans are beans, it's the juice they come in you that need to watch
on Max & Paddy's Road To Nowhere last night, Max (the Mum type) bought a tin of Big Bob's Beans for 4p

Mine are fine. Check the sell buy date. On the other hand, a good smattering of mature cheddar will mask the taste. Failing that, a jar of Pathak's madras. Remember, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

I've tried different 4 packs over the last couple of weeks and they are all the same. I've tried different makes but they are just ok. I've heard that Heinz and others have reduced the salt content and changed the recipe, perhaps thats it but if others have not noticed a change then it must be my taste buds.

It was probably the chilli con carne that hid the taste of 'metallic rubber' beans :?

It could be, I just hope that I change then or I'm going to be grumpy without my beans :(

i always buy heinz beans, but i tend to add pimento chilli powder or balsamic vinegar and a bit of ground black pepper to them while cooking, whatever i'm having them with, so i haven't really noticed any difference... and i do eat A LOT of them. :D

beans on toast? oh yes! try adding mushrooms, tomatoes & butter beans to the mix. bloody fantastic! :notworthy:

cook the mushrooms and the toms in the pan with a little olive oil first, before adding the beans & butter beans and cooking on a low heat to thicken up... dead hearty and very tasty!

i always buy mine from co-op ;D

its the nearest store to me...

to be fair, asda is also near-ish but as co-op win hands-down on the ethics front it really is a "no brainer" as to where i'd go shopping ;)
