it does get used sometimes, usually when people are more drunk than they are now.

I'll have a look through the various mods & hacks for phpBB forums and see if there's a better chatroom. Afterall, we haven't moaned at Quiff Boy to change anything for at least a week.

if someone wants to chat with me just add me to messenger (if you have it.. )

irc chat addons still require additional software dont they?
if i'm going to replace the current chat feature it would have to be with ine that was fully self-contained, needed no additional software on the part of the users, and integrated tightly with the heartland database (to pick up members' usernames, banned user settings, etc etc)
ultimately, any chat app needs to refresh the page from time to time to displkay new message, and unless its done in macromedia flash or as a java applet *shudder* its never going to be pretty
sadly, all the flash ones i've seen cost money, and few actually tie in with the database's users table

true. The only chat add-ons I saw were Java applets or JavaScript-based ones (which doubtless auto-refreshed every few seconds like the current one).
I guess we wait for the real geeks to write something which does the job properly...

i dont suppose anyone here is a very bored (and quite technical) macromedia flash or director programmer? and do you fancy writing a chat client for free? i can provide details of database schemas and some integration php scripts if anyone wants to write the front-end
worth a try eh?

You are cheap as a whore, Quiffs
I'm not THAT bored to do it for free...
Even if I COULD
IZ.
This chat thing doesn't seem to be working properly! I've just tried to join it and couldn't see what I write, and when I tried to refresh it or log out and then log back in to refresh it - it keeps saying : Duplicate entry '_emma_' for key 1.
