One for fans only I think.
The programme was essentially loads of random live footage with a few clippets of interview thrown in randonly. Great for a fan but didn't really offer any real insight or analysis.
To me it had the feel of a first documentary attempt edited by someone who has only ever worked on 'reality TV'.
As an avid consumer of rockumentary and music biography I was really dissapointed by the programme - very shallow and very poor.
I expect more from the south bank show!!!!

and now we have the darkness?

The South bank show has always had its fair share of 'populist' profiles in and amongst the obscure highbrow types. As such a profile of the Darkness is perfectly valid and in keeping - my main point it that it was such a poor programme - it has none of the usual depth and analysis you'd expect from the strand.Quiff Boy wrote:i always used to feel intelligent and "culturally aware" when i found i had actually heard of someone on the south bank show.

This wasn't as in depth as stuff like 'planet rock profiles', 'classic albums' or the excellent 'blood on the turntable' series.
This programme was to the music profile documentary what those thin, floppy backed, glossy, picture heavy, text light, cash in (soon to end up in the bargin bin store) 'books' are to the serious 300 page band biography with a few pix in the centre pages.
Which is a shame, as I suspect the Darkness story told right could be very interesting!
Thought it was a good programme but SBS always is.
I have 100% respect for those guys, at Guilford a vouple of years I saw them putting flyers on every car in the car park, no roadies, just them doing the job themselves, thats deadication and all the hard work paid off.

Quite frankly, i think thats pretty good for a bunch of girls with no help, no experience and no money, printing at home. it looks ok. people like it. job done.
i KNEW there was a reason we didn't advertise on here...
BTW, i still need a Smurphs gig review from someone soon.
