I went to my sister's earlier, armed with Body And Soul, Dr Jeep, This Corrosion, Dominion and The Reptile House. The record player played the songs a little higher and a little faster. They sounded f**king amazing.
I hadn't heard the original Train (only the Amphetamix) and never heard Afterhours. Body Electric sounded better than anything I've ever heard.
I didn't stop smiling until Torch ended. I didn't play Colours.
Records and the like.

I've checked them out, taken a load of files off them, then left. Has there been a new one added?

Nah, it's just that you said you haven't heard some songs before, and i'm sure they're on them somewhere.Dark wrote:I've checked them out, taken a load of files off them, then left. Has there been a new one added?

I hadn't heard the songs, but I promised myself I wouldn't listen to them unless I heard them on vinyl first. I mean, amazing as Body Electric's 12" mix is, it sounded far superior played on vinyl going slightly fast. Beat the original hands down. But then, that's not going to stop me looking for a cheap original.Big Si wrote:Fair enough.Dark wrote:What? Eldritch just cannot sing Colours as good as James Ray.Big Si wrote:

Just out of interest, did you get the strange fade in the middle of Body Electric? As if someone turned the volume down for a few seconds?Dark wrote:

And I don't think you'll ever find a cheap original. At least not unless you call 50 quid cheap!

whenever i've done any dj'ing i've always found that most dj's have their turntables and cd decks set to play a little faster. somewhere in the region +2 seems to be a fairly common setting - just enough to ramp up the bpm a tad, but without making it sound like mickey mouse...

Did anyone ever notice the vinyl crackling noises at the beginning of Body Electric on SGWBM (almost inaudible) ?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

Just had a liten, can't say I can! Gotta say though, the original vinyl of all the singles sound different to the Some Girls mixes. The vinyl is all a lot brighter.Hojyuu-obi wrote:Did anyone ever notice the vinyl crackling noises at the beginning of Body Electric on SGWBM (almost inaudible) ?

My 12" Body and Soul version of Body Electric drops in volume half way through for sure. Very annoying really, is it a mastering fault or did someone sit on the switch at recording time?

I took my cambridge audio DAC converter to richer
sounds to be repaired, several weeks later when my
friendly call to say it was ready didn't appear, I phoned
them up to enquire. They couldnt trace it. nobody could
trace it. Never to be seen again.
So if you want your hifi to disappear forever, take it
to richer sounds to be repaired.

I did hear a *slight* lower on one of the last "This place is death with walls" but otherwise nothing.
I DO however hear the crackles at the start of the original Body Electric at about 5 seconds in and then a little after that. I seem to remember Von mentioning that they came from original tapes/vinyls, with no editing, so maybe he just had a dusty copy.
For Body Electric, £50 would be cheap.
