hey! not my idea, ok?
i prefer the 82 version. the bass is louder, the drums heavier, the guitars screetchier, the vocals more strung out, and the whole thing sounds just that bit more frantic.
the 84 one sounds very tinny by comparison, and not nearly as angry... nice wailing at the end though
still, both versions are damn fine tracks

Guess I like gloss.
I reckon the '84 version benefits from 24 track recording as opposed to the original 4 track.
@ Sinny
Yup, the re-recording can be found on the Body & Soul 12" single.
Von claimed it was included because a lot of people asked where they could get it and the short answer was they couldn't. The original, released on the CNT label due to cash flow problems at MR was deleted, although both tracks did appear on the CNT compliation album They Shall Not Pass.
Others claimed it was a cynical attempt to induce die hard fans to buy their first major label single, as they were more likely to want that track than the poppy B & S.

ok, i wouldnt buy it, but you know what collectors are like: i'm sure a hell of a lot more was payed for the mains lead that was used for the kettle in the studio hendrix made "electric ladyland", or for the door handle from the studio at abbey road from when the beatles recorded there....
its called "fandom" my dear, and yes its is daft
but there is no rationale, rhyme or reason to it. just take away my overdraft and leave me nothing... but a lightbulb.
