Anyone using Soulseek?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I use it, but nowhere near as regularly as I did because I can find most of what I want on Bit Torent (18 mins for a full album? Yes please!).

My ID is : CellThree

Message me and I'll add you to my list.

I think there are probs with peoples firewalls and stuff. It's hard to see some peoples online status and files if both people are running firewalls

what's that other one I've been told about, 'Easy tree?' or something along those lines.

My mate has emptied Soulseek and has had to spread his talons further afield. :D :D :D

You have to have a BitTorrent client installed and register on the Easytree website before you can use it. All very simple, takes a few mins to do.

The only p2p progs I use are bittorrent and winny.

With bittorrent there is no centralised server, so you can't just do a simple search. You need to find a tracker - that's a site that lists the .torrent files. A .torrent file is a small file, around 5 to 200k depending on the file. This file contains the information that enables your bittorrent client to connect to the tracker and in turn to connect to other peers so you can get the file. A lot of bt sites seem to be specialised, and some take a bit of hunting down depending on what you're looking for. As a start you could try www.uknova.com or www.torrentspy.com or www.easytree.org
I don't use either of those sites, and the Japanese music sites I use won't be of much use to you, so maybe someone else will be able to recommend some sites.

Oh, another thing. When you start to download, make sure yor firewall isn't blocking the ports bt uses, or your download will be slow.
Also, on the bittorrent tracker/site for each torrent it'll list the number of seeders (the people who have the whole file) vs the number of downloaders/leechers. If theres not many seeders it means the file is probably new (so if you get a slow download wait a while until there's more seeders) or the file is old (in which case if you get a slow download it's probably best to forget it). It usually gives the date when a file is added so you can see if it's old or new.
