curious

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Am I right in thinking that about 80% of Hl are working in front of a pc all day?

How do so many of you get away with writing on here so much without the boss ever knowing? James Blast? :innocent:

Good on ya if ya can get away with it! :notworthy:

Very dodgy title of a thread at the moment :innocent:

My boss doesn't mind me surfing, just as long as all the work gets done first.

I type. It looks like I'm busy. No-one else can see my screen, so what I type is not abundantly clear.

Job done.

at work I can no longer check HL since the sweary filter was removed :(
I am off work at the moment with 'work related stress' could the two be connected?

I am in front of a PC pretty much all day at work, it is however a hell of alot easier to just read rather than write things.
This is the reason you will always see me logged on but not actualy posting much.
Either that or I have nothing much to say.(which aint realy true!)

Coworkers also get very pissed off if I am seen to be on the internet instead of working, although I do my job and do it very well.

Jealousy is crap but then only incompitent lazy fools get jealous when you do your job AND have fun. :D

I'm inbetween gigs. Although the last two jobs I had started the whole zero tolerance for surfing thing. One place fired on the spot while the other gave a warning prior to termination. I got caught at the first place and they gave me a final warning instead of termination. I actually left because of work related stress..

Last tech job I'll ever do.

I reckon 'work related stress' is more prevalent than we/you might think :(

I should have handled it differently though. My co-worker went on leave for six months and was paid. But he had a doctor who vouched for him. My doctors just told me to quit and wouldn't help me whatsoever when it came to going off on leave. I did manage to get on what I believe they call fmla for a few months. But fmla doesn't pay while you're out it just allows you to leave without getting fired.

I had tech jobs before without an issue but the company I was working for just pushed to much. Then when they started outsourcing they laid off a ton of the techs which ended up increasing my workload beyond what I was able to handle.

I was one of like 10 that left because of health issues because of the job.

Bastiches.

I don't have internet access at my desk other than to a handful of 'permitted websites' (Royal Mail, Financial Ombudsman Service, Financial Times etc.).

Our company policy states that it is a disciplinary offence to visit sites of a pornographic nature, sites which promote discrimination on the basis of race, religion or sexuality or to use the the firm's computers to search for jobs with other companies (even if you do it in your own time).

The Computer Aided Design class, when I post during the day. Waste of bloody time. Everyone uses it to go on Ebay, Livejournal etc... and somehow the tutors haven't noticed we get nothing done. :innocent:

According to my aunt, who works in "human resources", work-related stress is the new sore back. Not that she's biased or anything...

One thing I did leave out is that the one guy who went off on leave because of work related stress wasn't really stressed. That was the sad thing about the story. The guys who quit because of the work related stress just quit and didn't get a cent. The one who actually took advantage of the system wasn't even ill.

Such is life..

At our place, surfing the net, playing videogames, playing pool (we have a table), going to the gym and 2 hour lunch breaks are all okay (I kid you not).

Work related stress? Unheard of.

But you make sure you get the job done, and if you're doing any of the above, make sure you're total hours add up.

Its a shame that more companys don't realise that if you treat your employees well, they're healthier and more inclined to pay back the favor.

No annoying boss, no twaddling with colleagues, no pool-table, nor a kicker or flipper. Just a big Nothing.
Nothing that would detain me from posting.
