no more heroes anymore

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

If I look at this purely from a music perspective, which is why I'm here in the first place, all of mine are dead. Morrison, Vicious, Curtis, Cobain. :(

Oh, and the other one lives in Spain as a fat cat feeding fat cats. :von:

so the only good hero is a dead hero...what does that gain anyone?...

if it comes to the question of who would i spend good money on to go and see live before they shake off their mortal coil and become the hero that they're destined to become...then i guess i would include

David Bowie...

um...yep... :innocent:

seen everyone else who comes into the category of hero in my books  (except Izzy :notworthy: )

Bowie's already a Hero (no pun intended) through his longetivity. As are Bono, Sting, Page, Plant, Daltrey et al. They've managed to avoid the pit-falls.

Sport: Witness Stevie Gerrard scoring for Liverpool against Everton last week and not only kissing his crest on his shirt, but actually biting it. Everyone knows he'll be a Chelsea player in the summer.

Music: FF in two years time still going strong? The Killers? Bloc party? Unfortunately in sport and music it's money that talks. No Led Zepp gigging around Brum pubs trying to make it happen. Trying to get a break.

It's all money and the public see that. Each year a new sound, a new fashion. And they accept it. Where do I pay please?

Barry McGuigan? Frank Bruno? James Hunt? Nigel Mansell? Damon Hill?

No More Heroes anymore, so yes I would conclude with PiBs opening post.

It's sad but money talks. And our 'heroes' are manufactured in the blink of an eye. And discarded as quickly. Money talks.

the novel below deals with that very concept...

but i have to agree...the current crop of media whores and musical hacks are going to have a long hard slog to emulate the legends of old...

Heroes? Hmmm... Can't say I've ever had any. People I respect. Certainly not any who've topped themselves/ died of their excesses. Bowie? Yes. Eastwood? Yes. Weller? Yes. Morrissey? Once. Eldritch? Still. My parents? Of course. You miserable bastards. Well alright!

Who knows what is really the right thing or wrong thing to do. Yes it's wrong but sometimes you can't see an alternative. Everyting is percieved as a knockback or an error of judgement, and then where's the future?

It is all quite rationalised.

Bollocks. There's always someone who'll cry at your passing. Even if it's only the owner of your local off-licence. :innocent:

Tis the thing that stopped me, back in the dark ages. obviously rational thought never completely left me, so i might not have been as far gone as i thought at the time.

surely Kurt Cobain didn't kill himself...wasn't it the electrician who was working in his house who killed Kurt on Courtney's instruction?

well if Derek R (no relation Dave?) is excluded it must be one of the following:
  • AC/DC
    The Jesus And Mary Chain
    Nick Cave
