The Pope died to 21.37 pm

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Beat me to it. I was the first to post on alt.gothic about it though.

Bit spooky, that post, it's only 21:14 here...

My dad said earlier how macabre it was, the whole world has been waiting all day for him to die.

My mother just told me that in Poland the whole country is grieving, all church bells are ringing, there is a black screen on TV and everybody went out to the town's square to kneel down and pray. I think it is called overreacting...
I understand that one of the greatest people has died but I think he was really ready to go, I'm sure it was very frustrating for him to lose power over his body - he was unable to speak, in constant pain - there was that one of the recent photos when he was crying because he tried to speak to the crowd and was unable to do so... However, I do feel sad... :(

Noooo, think of the children :| Morning TV was ruined for weeks in 1997. I couldn't find my cartoons anywhere. T'was inhuman torture.

That and the fact that now I'm a few years older and wiser I'm bloody sick of the cult of celebrity, posthumous or otherwise. Oh, apart from one person :von: :innocent:

Waiting for another war
And waiting for my 21.37

:innocent:

Doesn't really fit though, does it? ;)

Didn't think so. Though the whole media sensationalisation of his death does kind of fit with the "Cut him down on Television".

PM, Indrek...

In the true tradition of everyone who's brought up Catholic, I couldn't be less of a Catholic, but still, it's funny how my overriding feeling is "Poor old Pope".

I hope it doesn't go all Diana though, I'd go insane!

I think you will find that is a "Murder Of Crows" - or perhaps you mean "Vultures" :-)

What was Jesus's surname? Was it 'Christ'?

I thought it was Arimathea (spelling?), or was that the town he was from? Sorry if the question seems naive.

Nah, Christ is a title like king, whereas arimathea means 'son of god' or somethinglike itn whis was the surname they gave to his brother in the bible or something. Also he was called Jesus the Nazarenean (or something like it, don't know how it is in English) which doesn't mean 'Jesus of Nazareth' but had to do with some kind of religious group.
Anyway, liked the news of the pope dying, it stopped my cnn-headache  (after three days non stop cnn you get sick whenever you hear 'thisss is cnn!'), though he meant quite a bit to the world. Curious what the next one'll be like...

True... If I had intended to use the collective noun for crows.
I will concede that vultures are more renowned for circling than crows.
I suppose "gathering" would have been a better choice of word.
I also have to confess that I have no idea as to the collective noun for vultures. I suppose flock would suffice in a pinch.
But sticking with the Corvus family, you do get an unkindness of ravens, which would seem appropriate in this situation.

Besides which, that was a first draft. I would have picked it up on the rewrites.

Well, just as we expected, it's Maximum Pope on every bloody channel...
I wonder what the folks at Buckingham Palace are thinking (as regards Charles and Camilla's imminent wedding) when they check the mood-of-the-nation-ometer...
