Gene Loves Jezebel

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Michael plays Sheffield on 3rd June , Jay plays Sheffield on 18th June LOL

Jay's version is by far the better BTW.

What's the story of Gene loves J, They were a band we loved thru the late 80's,especially at discos etc [with newcastle the 'mayfair'] but have heard nowt since, I understand there's a split, but what's the crack?

AFAICT, they did split, half moved to the states and formed a GLJ there. The bits that stayed over here heard about this and "reformed" also under the name of GLJ.
I'm sure someone here will be able to tell you who's in which band.
Whole thing makes my head hurt. I just want them to play "Sweet rain" :|

and i seem to recall reading that jay's band has more of the original line-up

but that could have been on jay's site, so he woudl say that wouldnt he?

there's much bitterness and acrimony on both sides. take everything either of them say with a pinch of salt...

 So, Gene doesn't love Jezebel very much anymore then...

..."Desire" is their only good song anyway, IMHO.

And when I bought my first synthesizer I was asked to join them. My last band was made up of mainly early ex-members. Memories........ local boys you know! :notworthy:

Jay's version is the "proper" one. He was the main one in the original line up. Jay (based in UK) has whassisface the guitarist ... James Stevenson & they sound like GLJ & play GLJ songs.

Michael was really a glorified backing singer & now drags round a bunch of Yank students nobody has ever heard of as GLJ. They don't actually sound much like GLJ either.

I do hope you mean the sublime B side on the Shame 12", also on the CD version of Immigrant, and not the p!ss poor opening track from House Of Dolls  That album is where it all started to go wrong* (and illustrates the 'style' which Michael's version of the band chose to adopt, ie sh!te). Jay has retained more of the style of the early band.

* ...apart from "Every Door", which is a fantastic song.

GLJ photos from whitby :von:

clicky

a bit blurry, but you get the idea.

they were f*cking superb! very groovy and rocked like bastards.

only the tracks from the latter couple of albums sounded even vaguely like that american rock nonsense they descended into. all the rest where as punky, poppy and spikey as the versions you know and love... 8)

me like :notworthy: :D
