Exellent. We're going up on the Wed and coming back on the Tues.
I highly recommend (if you're still around) the Goths V Townies footy match on Sunday.

What's the story of Gene loves J, They were a band we loved thru the late 80's,especially at discos etc [with newcastle the 'mayfair'] but have heard nowt since, I understand there's a split, but what's the crack?
...mmmmmmmmmMMMMMM!....
AFAICT, they did split, half moved to the states and formed a GLJ there. The bits that stayed over here heard about this and "reformed" also under the name of GLJ.
I'm sure someone here will be able to tell you who's in which band.
Whole thing makes my head hurt. I just want them to play "Sweet rain"

and i seem to recall reading that jay's band has more of the original line-up
but that could have been on jay's site, so he woudl say that wouldnt he?
there's much bitterness and acrimony on both sides. take everything either of them say with a pinch of salt...

And when I bought my first synthesizer I was asked to join them. My last band was made up of mainly early ex-members. Memories........ local boys you know!
And we are nothing but experience in the eyes of nature,
And we will live forever in the eyes of nature.

Jay's version is the "proper" one. He was the main one in the original line up. Jay (based in UK) has whassisface the guitarist ... James Stevenson & they sound like GLJ & play GLJ songs.
Michael was really a glorified backing singer & now drags round a bunch of Yank students nobody has ever heard of as GLJ. They don't actually sound much like GLJ either.

I do hope you mean the sublime B side on the Shame 12", also on the CD version of Immigrant, and not the p!ss poor opening track from House Of Dolls That album is where it all started to go wrong* (and illustrates the 'style' which Michael's version of the band chose to adopt, ie sh!te). Jay has retained more of the style of the early band.culprit wrote:...and 'gorgeous'

GLJ photos from whitby
clicky
a bit blurry, but you get the idea.
they were f*cking superb! very groovy and rocked like bastards.
only the tracks from the latter couple of albums sounded even vaguely like that american rock nonsense they descended into. all the rest where as punky, poppy and spikey as the versions you know and love...
