He he, it must be a cyclical thing. For what i can tell, every so often this discussion arises on dominion. Does it matter anyway?

Prince of darkness is Peter Murphy. To me, it is. And I'm definitely goth!On Aug 26, 2002 11:13pm, zigeunerweisen wrote:

Eldritch says people never understood the irony, the rock parody in the beggining, including the way they dressed...
That is, if Eldritch hasn't simply been opportunist enough to ride in Goth's wave as in a way to sell some records and make some money, and then (with Patricia) fed that image to the limit to sell a lot more records and make a lot more money, and still then (with the other clowns) sucked the last drop of gothic rock, like a vampire, to sell millions of records and make money enough never to work again.
It's a thesis I've no problem believing.
The innocent irony to rock'n'roll? It's hard to swallow!
But what I really dislike is after 10 years of dressing like a goth and draining goth's pockets the man now wants to deny, if not erase, his past. Of course, no one will let him forget how he got there. Maybe that's what bugs him so much about the press and the fans dressed in black.
Besides, not that he is doing much to change his image, like the Cult did, like David Bowie (apparently one of his idols) did... But that takes work... Work and passion.
And I believe this thread should be locked before Mr. I'm-not-a-Goth-but-I-sure-as-hell-got-rich-with-Goth tries to shut down Heartland too...

@Ziggy:

Hmm...I think they *were*. Especially in their sideburns/wide-brimmed hats/long black coats/winklepickers days (see Mick Mercer's "Gothic Rock Black Book" for some great examples - LOL!!! ) . You know the old saying, "If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck..?" Hehehe. Now? I dunno...
Just my 2 penneth!

I left my heart in Ballycastle...
Well, I wear clothes on occasion that could be described as 'goth' but I'm not goth. I don't think and have never thought that the Sisters were Goth. I don't see clothes as some kind of uniform. I wear something because I like the way it looks, not because I'm trying to put across a particular image to others.
But does it matter anyway? People are entitled to, and will always have (hopefully), their own opinions.

wasn't that tag used by a Japanese music jouno who went to interview him in Hamburg?...Apparently he walked out...fair enough...On Aug 26, 2002 11:13pm, zigeunerweisen wrote:

I heard that Tricky is 'nearlygod' (it is also nick taken from some interview). Maybe we should contact these two together:
prince & nearly g. Conversation may be quite interested.
Seriously, when I look at cover to Echoes (specialy 1&2) I don't see eldritch goth, rather
incarnation of Joe Ramone (hlip, hlip) Are they Ramones are Goth? Black leathers... ??:

Hee hee, I remember at the West Riding gig when you asked the audience if they thought the smurphs were goth and if the sisters were goth. Wasn't the answer a resounding no? Well okay, a kinda 'what the f**ks he on about' silence but meant the same thing!!!!On Aug 27, 2002 12:30pm, Padstar wrote:
