Kylie

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Just when I thought Kylie Minogue was perfect proof that people can still be young (or even cute, still) in their 30s, news broke today that she has breast cancer.

I wondered when this topic will arise on here. It's all very sad and all and for all I think she's a talentless bint, I do genuinly hope she gets throught this....

HOWEVER. On Wednesday, this was Headline f*ucking news. It really made me angry. You don't hear about someone's granny getting it do you. So what, just because she gets her arse out and 'sings' she's worthy of news coverage??

STOP IT!

Did you not read the top line of my post?

I have every sympathy. I've recently stopped working in a hospice so I know how hard this must be, but like I said. It's not headline news just because she's famous.

It's called getting things into prospective here.

Totally agree with you. Thousands of people a year die from this horrible disease. But no-one cares until it's someone famous? Sick.

I'm sure the same applies to her as to anyone i.e. all those who care about her care. She just has more such people than most. And I guess it raises the profile of the big C again and doesn't hurt to remind us all that fame and fortune cannot protect you from such things. And it was probably a slow news day.
And you know that she's half crazy but that's why you want to be there.

:notworthy: to all of the above...

without wanting to sound callous isnt this just the most perfect thing that could have happened to her though? in terms of her "gay icon" status?

she's done nearly everything she can in that respect: tv soap star, cutesy teeny pop, sultry pop diva, disco queen.

and now a spot of personal tragedy.

all she needs to do now is become a gin-drinking recluse and then a couple of years later die from an overdose of sleeping pills. thus she truly would become a gay legend... 6 months after that the gay community would be saying "so who was that daft mare in the wizard of oz?" and scratching their heads. she would become the ultimate gay icon

I notice she's getting treatment in (I think) the same WEEK as she's been diagnosed.

When my dad had cancer (last year, thankfully he's all clear now), he had to wait 4 months for treatment.

God bless the NHS.

On wednesday I discovered that I had cancer, there is a tumour in my bladder that isn't good at all. I am booked in to hospital on monday to have the tumour removed on tuesday.
So yeah right, God bless the NHS.

All true.

And she's not on the NHS unless the UK taxpayers pay for hospitals in Melbourne.

I quite like Kylie in a way & wish her all the best. Confide in me was a cracker even before Mr E got his mitts on it.

But it's weird to see someone who has poison injected into their face held up as a paragon of clean living wholesomeness...

Oh I forgot. Poison to look young is ok. It's only poison going through those organs that were designed to remove poison so you can get through another wage slave day that's bad.

Although it will of course be a huge loss to society if all those who have had botox get ill, won't it?

:innocent:

Best of luck to zaltys7- you sound remarkably chipper in the circs, I hope all goes well

No, anything that raises awareness of this nasty little disease is a good thing IMHO. I don't give a monkey's if the meeja only print it 'cos it's a famous face that's got it; if the end result is increased awareness and extra dosh going to beat this thing, great.

BTW, going private ain't always the easy option. Depending of course on the Postcode Lottery, it might only be a matter of getting attention a couple of days earlier than the NHS would have seen to you. with the same consultant. And of course, any op is the "easy" bit. Our local hospital, Clatterbridge Centre For Oncology, is, if I may say so, fcuking superb.

So Gawd bless the NHS. And Mr. Bevan, top chap for getting that one in place :D

Thanks Markfiend and Straylight. I dont think chipper is realy the word but when I first knew there was a problem, at the beginning of february (blood in your urine is BAD) I decided that i would assume the worst, to be prepared for the worst.
It's a shame my parents didn't do the same because they realy are in shock now :|

yep.

a "gay icon" is someone that is an iconic figure to gay people.

not an icon that is gay.

ergo a "straight icon" would be someone that iconic to straight people.

like bruce willis.

wait...

so they get Kylie and we get Bruce? I'd call that a bit unfair.
