hackers and spyware

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Never heard the terms 'Hacktivism' and 'Crypto-anarchism' before clicking on that link.

Very cool.

No idea. Am I just lucky that this doesn't happen to me then? (He says, furiously touching wood. As it were)

Ah, that'll be why I'm lucky then. There's one in the wireless router thingummy.

(Shouldn't you be revising or is that done with now?)

My firewall is software, never had any problems with hacking or so too...

After every exam I take an afternoon off, that's why  (and I just had one this very morning)

It took me ages to get the hang of spyware/anti-virus things when I first went online. I think I have just about got it now! 8)

To protect your computer, get a firewall that involves kerosene and bunsen burners. ;)

Not necessarily, there are some very good software firewalls too... I run Sygate Personal Firewall, but another good one is ZoneAlarm (more userfriendly) and there are even more good ones...

At least, that's my opinion, now hear the techies'

I took the easy route and installed a Debian Linux box running NAT and Shorewall and a few other things. It downloads security updates every night automatically. :innocent:

I also use Thunderbird and Firefox (yes, the trial was successful!) which limits my risk. :von:
