Hey markfiend and Black Alice, what hotels do you frequent? I stayed in the Avenue last time and the Kras the time before that, both were very good. I got a great deal on the Kras, it's normally well out of my price range.
Got any favourite coffeeshops?

Ah, I stayed in the Kras! (I presume you mean as in -napolsky...)DerekR wrote:Hey markfiend and Black Alice, what hotels do you frequent? f**king amazing place. They had a Lebanese resturant with "smoking paraphernalia" all over the place , and a sushi restaurant with a very sexy Japanese waiter/cook guy as I recall... but I digress...
A man in the street stumbled out of one of those "coffee shops" and came up to me - I was just walking along, as one does - and he grinned and held out a little china clog.
I went home feeling that I'd truly experienced Holland.

Staying at the Hotel Vondel in the Museum District - £50 ish for the night.
Coffeeshops - you have any favourites? A friend goes on a fairly regular basis so we were hoping for tips from him. We'll only be there one night on the way back from Tilburg ( ) so we can get ratted and not worry about burning out a holiday - as long as I have recovered by Thursday when we fly to Barcelona

Oh yes Favourites of mine are Hunters bar on Waarmstraat (look for the cartoon dog above the door). Try the Kali Mist, as long as you don't have much planned for the next hour or two Internet access in here too, so you can get your HL fix. Just up the road a bit is no.36 Coffeeshop, which was my first ever and as such will always have a special place in my heart. It's still the first place I stop. Great seats at the back looking out over the canal. I don't know how many hours of my life I've wasted gazing out that window Normally has some excellent trance music banging away, if that's yer thang.Black Alice wrote:Coffeeshops - you have any favourites?
Also nearby (up a sidestreet off Damrak) you'll find "420", which is a nice place to sit and chill and watch life go by outside.
Also worth visiting is the Bluebird which is a little bit further away, near the flower market if memory serves (and it usually doesn't). Make sure you get a shot of the lovely leather sofa upstairs, sheer luxury!

Nah, you'll be OK after the first joint or two and the first out of body experience is over and done with!
I'm off to check the Jet2 website now

I've stayed in the Hotel Vondel. Very nice
This time we've booked a self-catering apartment just off the Waterlooplein.
I quite like the Rokerij just off Leidseplein for a "quick" smoke.

I was hoping for cake - I don't smoke either (not that it wouldn't have an effect, just that I have never smoked anything at all).Delilah wrote:You people are so lucky! I don't smoke so "herbs" haven't got any effect whatsoever on me... They should make some "coffee-shops" with stuff that it is easier to consume!
I'm still off to the coffeeshops to soak up the atmosphere (and Paul does partake )

13th? Be at the Amsterdam Arena me to see those four Irish bhoys. When I was studying in Amsterdam there used to be a few nice 'herbal shops' in the Spuistraat apparently. Never really went to them myself, booze too expensive and it is really only for the tourists

Sorry, no can do Karst, flying back home in the early evening on the 13th.
By the way, Black Alice we stayed at the Hotel Vondel a couple of times; the second time we said "oh yes we stayed here before and we liked it enough to come back" and they upgraded our rooms.
So if you tell them "a friend recommended you" you might get lucky...

Enjoy your stay Mark. Not much in record hunting there maybe. Concerto in the Utrechtsestraat was always a favourite. Boudisque is good for new stuff and Distortion is great for loads of obscure indie stuff and the occasional Sisters record: http://www.distortion.nl/
The latter is in a nice neighbourhood too, excellent for food and some great little cafe's.

I'm going in August (and coming back the day of the Tilburg gig!). Staying at the Kras. Whats the deal with this place then? Do you rate it?
Never stayed there before - it looks like a bargain.
Fav coffee shops - Greenhouse Centrum, Abraxas, Greenhouse Effect. And Vondel park for a nice chill out.
