Fatalities on the buses have been confirmed. We're hearing bangs all over the place in the distance. Plus the sirens wailing. London is basically shutting down.

All mobile networks are down. Whether that's overload or precautionary I don't know. All train services into London suspended. Everyone in London who travels in from outside is stranded.

I'm five minutes from Aldgate, my office is the other side of the police cordon so we've not been evacuated yet.

Its pretty scary , tonnes of fire engines , police, police horses , tv crews , helicopters etc etc

Just heard another bus has been blown up at Charing Cross ...people are been advised to stay put and not attempt to travel anywhere outside.

This is awful - it just unfolds bigger and bigger. Obviously it looks like a terrorist attack, and one even more sophisticated than the Madrid attacks (though thankfully less deadly, at least as far as we know so far). The timing re: G8 makes it looks particularly political, but it's not obvious how much we can read into this yet.

It's apparently to prevent detonation of further devices if they're being set off with mobiles (as they were in Madrid).

unlikely, I'd think (hope) - more likely to be small conventional explosive devices designed to cause fear and panic and casualties in enclosed spaces. And the Met are now saying "many casualties" according to the BBC.

There's reports on BBCNews that decontamination tents have been spotted. I hope that's just a precaution and not a sign of anything more sinister.
