Death Music

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Tis a good choice admittedly, but I'd hate to have my copy of it played...all crackly and ripped-from-poor-vinyl :(
My mp3 is perfectly crackle-free, and I think I'd ask for my own 12" single to be played (and I'd demand for the whole lot of them to sing along to all the songs). However, I also want to be buried with all my records, so they'd have to put it in my coffin when they're done.

No Time To Cry would tell the mourners to dry their eyes, it's only a bleedin' funeral.
Blood Money to symbolise that they might get something off me, now I'm dead.
Bury Me Deep to say "But don't forget, I'm dead."

And then maybe the Rhapsody song "Emerald Sword" to really surprise them. ;D

'inside' doesn't scan properly I still reckon its 'in silence' a lot of the lyrics you find online are bogus, in fact I mean logic

Well, if the song is about sex, which I believe it is, then I'd say it's "inside", not the predictable morbidity of "in silence".

A sad, gothic obsession with death could backfire on you badly when the situation gets a bit more real.

Train is the SOM song about death, if there aren't more.

Here are my choices, any are appropriate, and they're nice tunes to boot - and I make no apology for my selection:

Chris Rea - Let's Dance ("while there's a chance and you're near"!)
Tom Cochrane - Life is a Highway
George Michael - Waiting For That Day

Martha Reeves - Jimmy Mack
Something off "New Gold Dream" by Simple Minds, perhaps
Art Of Noise - Moments in Love

Prince - Money Don't Matter Tonight
Sam Cooke - What a Wonderful World This Will Be (gee, thanks)
Paul McCartney - Goodnight Tonight

Walker Brothers - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore
Louis Armstrong - As Time Goes By
Phil Collins - Take Me Home
.... there is no semblance of rock 'n roll around here!

We had 'Stop This Train, I Want To Get Off' and 'One Love' by Bob Marley at my brothers funeral.

For mine?
Killing Jokes 'Requiem', Scott Walkers 'No Regrets', PiL's 'Public Image' (....goodbye.) and finally 'Heartland' because its simply the most wonderful record; Eldritch lyrically on the top of his game and some of Mr Marx's finest geetar work to boot.

Lay me down the long white line
Leave the sirens far behind me
Paint my name in black and gold
My heart my flame my heart my road
My heartland fade across the line
Heartland sing the faces shining
In the failing failing failing
Heartland make the places mine

Clearly now the past mistakes
The giant steps we had to take
The path that ever promise made to
Die in dream dissolve and fade

Behind the lines a face that glimmers
Still looking for a face that shines
In the promise in the places
I'm going to make them mine
Some obvious gloomy references in there but ultimately a song about finding your place at last, which is ironic for an aetheist!
Something pithy.

I'd prefer Driver to Heartland if I had to pick one played at my funeral. But only if it's Candle being played, with the mourners singing the lyrics over it.

And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

This isn't a song, but today I was lying bored and naked in my bedroom (as you do when it's hot and you suffer from migraines) and I started thinking about what I would like my funeral to be like.

I've decided I want a Viking funeral at dusk, there's just something beautiful about it that I like alot.

I'm not even trying to be funny this time, but I'm honest.

I've long ago decided that at my funeral first they'll have to play "Bury Me Deep" to make sure everybody cries properly (or else shivers), and after the speech(es) that hopefully won't be held by a priest, I want "Temple Of Love".

Imagine both songs in a church...... :D

It would definitely have to be the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Fire....

That would be my signing off tune for sure as the box enters the flames...
