I'm back... and so homesick already...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Just got back from my holidays in Poland and feeling so down... had a great time over there and really don't want to be in the UK. I have a feeling I don't belong here and never will... this is not my country and I should have never moved here. Have been in the UK nearly 6 years and still feel like a stranger. Being in Poland made me realise how much happier I am over there and if my situation was different (meaning, if I have not started a family with an English guy) I would just packed my stuff and went back. Sorry for whingeing, but I am really on the verge of crying all the time... :(

After four years of living here, I feel much the same about New York. :| I don't know what your working situation is, but perhaps you and yer man can work out a six-month back and forth thing, à la Persephone and Hades? Just a thought.

Hey, I was beginning to feel there was a Delilah-shaped hole in this place!

Welcome back babe! :notworthy:

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling that bad. What the others said - try and talk it over with the kids' dad? If possible. Maybe if he's not keen on it just now (I gather your kids are pretty young), he might be more open to the idea that you could take them when they're a little older and can maybe decide with you if they would like to live there.
If not, nip over on holiday as often as you can... 's the best I can say. I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about, just hope you feel better soon. :D

my situation is not very straightforward though... I have a child who was born here and is more English than Polish... As much as she likes going to Poland on holidays, I think it would be very difficult for her to live there. She does not even speak the language properly... And my other half would never move there either. It would not be practical for him, because of his kind of work. Seems like I'm stuck here... :( BUT, I have some nice Polish beer to cheer me up! 8)

Hm. Went to visit my folks for two weeks but glad I'm back. Don't get me wrong it is nice to see my relatives but the combination of extreme flatness and close proximity headcount does make me shiver these days.

Looks like the people who are living next door. They just finished singing Jingle Bells very loudly and will probably be soon pissing through the garden fence (at least that is what they did yesterday around this time). How do you say 'Shut the f*** up' in Polish?

Hi there Delilah..I'm pretty much in the same boat as you but then with 2 of the little monsters. Have been living in Holland for 10 years now and I have vowed only 5 more.....kids no matter what age and the person that loves you too will learn to adapt in another country with another language because they look to you as guidance and that is what you reign as mother.

 Feel with you when missing family and friends.....mine are all in that sunny South Africa and homesickness is a f**king b*tch but hey...the tears dry and you become yet stronger being who you are now.

I work for a Polish lady and her man is Dutch and there are so many of *our* type out there but my dear lady....it does make you a better and stronger person and your better-half loves you even more for it.

Smile because once the tears dry....a smile allows the sun to come out from behind the clouds.

Sent with *energy* of the very white kind

Hey you! I've missed you. No-one else can machine gun 380 words a minute down a telephone line. I have been kept up to speed by N. Not only does Mummy not know about the extra landline in Devon, she sure as hell doesn't know about the extra mobile. :innocent:

Yes, if you're having withdrawal symptoms and you're that way inclined. 8)

Welcome back.

No intention of doing that. Work to do. And the tensions between Polish migrant workers and the 'locals' make things quite difficult here unfortunately. :x

And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"
