What time is it?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I'm sure the North Northumberland Combination would welcome you with open arms. From there it's only about 15 promotions to the Premiership.

Not a problem for clubs with your colossal and loyal fanbases, I'm sure.

I just don't think Rangers and Celtic should be allowed to grab the Premiership places that teams like Wigan and Fulham have earned by working their way up from nowhere, simply because they come from a country which isn't very good at football.

I'm even less keen on this idea when the Scottish FA is determined to ensure that no GB team plays football in the Olympics (whether it's in London or any other city).

Why don't we invite Artmedia Bratislava instead? They seem better equipped to compete on current evidence, and they are about as authentically English.

Perhaps the Scottish leagues would be less boring if Scotland's football fans weren't so readily seduced by the self-perpetuating mythology surrounding the Old Firm and went to watch their local teams instead? And maybe if Rangers and Celtic were less obsessed with screwing every last penny out of the SPL they might find they get some decent competition somewhere down the line?

After a year of watching Scottish football, I have very little time for the big two. And boundless sympathy for Berwick (my adopted Anglo-Scottish outfit, freshly relegated back to Div 3  )

I am sure this may surprise you, but I totally agree with you! You should not be able to change countries because the one you play in is a 2 horse race. It would be much more fun for the Old Firm if they were in the EPL, but they have no right to even contemplate it.

As for screwing the SPL, I think that as the Old Firm has the lions share of fans it should get a comensurate amount of TV revenue. Parity in the Scottish game? Over a hundred years of the clubs using bigotry to attract fans is hard to undo.

I may be a Ger and a Prod, but I am proud to have many friends who are 'Tic fans and RC :notworthy:

That argument makes economic sense, but not sporting sense. Enlightened self-interest suggests a stronger SPL is ultimately to the Old Firm's benefit.

If you have a better league to play in, because the other teams are more competitive, you have fewer problems bridging the gap between domestic and European football.

If the other clubs are more capable of success, attendances go up across the board which makes the other clubs stronger in a virtuous circle.

Stronger teams from third place down means better football, and more opportunity to attract better players into Scottish football - enhancing your chances in Europe. It may also help with the development of local young players, which would boost the national team's dismal showings and further cement Scotland as a serious footballing nation at club level.

To reverse your initial argument, it is because the Old Firm have the overwhelming bulk of supporter revenue that the other clubs should get a greater slice of the SPL's collective cash. It's no co-incidence that the league has got less competitive since TV deals escalated and headed almost exclusively into Glasgow. It's only 20 years since Dundee Utd and Aberdeen were serious contenders - now there are none.

Sport + capitalism = boredom. And the Premiership isn't much better, really.

Although I understand your reasoning, and do agree to a great extent, parity will not be achieved in Scotland due to the Old Firm's greed. Pure and simple. They have used bigotry to draw people to them, hence such poor support for local teams. I am as guilty of that as anyone as I was born in England (!), with my dad being from Glasgow I adopted Rangers. My English team is West brom ( :urff: ).

A stronger SPL would benefit everyone, but the Old Firm would never give up their grip on the title
