Avatars. We've all got 'em, some are hilarious, some are gorgeous, some are just plain weird. Give 'em a story. Where they've come from, where they're going...
Obvious exclusions involve, yerself - unless there's an interesting story - and boudicca for pretty much the same reason, plus I don't need a lot of bloody hormones running all over the floor. d00m, we know you're the greatest Female TARDIS driver since The Rani. I'd love to know where The Chairman got his avatar idea from - and indeed, is he himself a Timelord? He's got the name...
There's yer job description. To start you off, if you don't recognise the man to my left, you've missed out on a vital bit of British culture. Correct this immediately by procuring a copy of "Withnail and I" and watch the holiday that shouldn't have happened. Booze-soaked and psychosis-riddled Withnail is a role-model for us all.
You're up.

Yours is Richard E. Grant looking deeply unhappy as I have just rejected his amorous advances towards me...

Just thinking the same; might need the scalpel of Doctor Moderator to bring this back to the point - I am actually interested in a few people's avatars!
...it'd make Virgin wonder who spiked their overpriced tea this morning.

why i'm bothering is anyone's guess,as i can see the next station for this thread is "trashbin valley.population:you." but here goes ...
(and only 'cause tim laughed at a joke i made earlier this week)
after the <fuckwit quote i took from the "skweeky-kleen (sic) book of state-sponsored lies about drugs"(which was a side-splitter,if you missed it) failed to be legible on certain HL themes, i dug deep into my bag of ideas and came up with a pic. of some drugs.
through a variety of demons, skulls and day-glo 'blanket slogans' -some animated, some not;all temporary- i finally came to "daswhirlything".
surely,at last- the proof you deny -that we ARE amongst you..."
[/heavy sarcasm veering into sh!te]

Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

To my consternation, emwk, your new avatar gives me immidiate LSD backlashes, that distract from reading considerably.
The whole grim story of my avatar can be seen on yahoo.com > videos > Tiamat > Brighter than the sun.

I like the film
edit - not really matching the brief that is it?
The film is Dead Man for those that don't know, a film where not a lot happens but what does happen creates a mood like no other film. You could say it's a very slow paced western but that would be missing the point to a large extent.
Why my avatar? Well, I like the film and I like the picture.

I found on a site full of gothic images and quite liked it.
If you think I'm a pretentious arse you'll nod sagely when I point out that the circle motive is a metaphor for the underlying futility of posting on message boards.
If you don't think I'm a pretentious arse you'll believe that I made that up on the spur of the moment to answer the question.

i made it for him. we kinda came up with the idea during a discission, so i'm not sure who had the actual idea.timsinister wrote:I'd love to know where The Chairman got his avatar idea from - and indeed, is he himself a Timelord? He's got the name...
basically, it runs thus:
bax --> bux --> bucks --> dollars
and it seemed only right that it should be in caslon antique.
a timelord? probably, he does have the look of patrick troughton

Err, mine's from some American Right wing site, I found it quite funny, have some others from there like one saying 'Fuque le French... Cheese eating surrender monkeys' from there
Don't remember all of my previous ones, but the 'converstation is over there' one I had before this was one I stole from someone else but the original was pointing in the right direction, I've also had Clement Peerens (some funny rocker from Belgium) and a cover of a Mauro Pawlowski & The Grooms cd, which is quite nice music too...
Not to forget the original Obviousman I started with
And I'm always looking out for a better avatar...
